They just totalled my office chair (Whats wrong with these people?)

How does an office chair thread to on for days on a car forum? It's like taking pictures of your food.

I had a friend one who bought a jaguar xj6 with the intent to transplant a 350 into it.

He started hanging around with other jag owners.

One thing that struck me as odd-

They all seemed to enjoy talking about how expensive it was to get their cars repaired.

You should see what we get in the boiler room of the hospital that I work at. Absolutely everything we get is from the garbage, I mean everything! Our desks, lockers, chairs and everything fresh picked out of the dumpster. I am not exaggerating! Next they will give us used toilet paper! On top of that we work rotating shifts and 7 days in a row with no overtime as at midnight between Saturday and Sunday begins a new week. Your body always knows it but your paycheck never does! If we had a used chair like yours these S.O.B.s would probably confiscate it for being too good for us low-life scum! Granted we are off the beaten path and no one comes through here as this is a boiler, chiller and A/C mechanical area, but we literally control all most everything in the entire hospital including operating room temperatures and humidity as well as all fire alarm systems house water pressure, and most supporting equipment.
With that said, feel good about what you have and as mentioned, an upholstery shop would most likely be well able to bring yours back to very good condition.
How far below sea level is that boiler room? Yes I know the being treated as lower than the whale SH** at the bottom of the ocean. Even though it was second floor they took out all our windows and three fourths of the heat. We fought for fifteen years to get rid of the battle ship green. Yes everything was that color. We managed to get white for a few years. Them some dumb broad thought everything would look nice pea green. Man I hate peas. We were call engineering and detailing.

Simple!! When you live East coast USA under COVID BS from Cuomo, Murphy, Wolfe you need comic release from the BS the "people in charge", whether government or management, SSSOO you turn to your inner sarcasm and LET IT RIP!! Its a Philly, SJ/NJ/NY survival thing. And after eating, let the "COW GAS RIP" too. eldubb, pasta looks good dude!!

Years ago i bought a used "vitra es 104 lobby chair" which is identical to the "herman miller eames executive chair" sold in the united states.
I paid about 1,5k for the chair but it was in decent condition back then.

Well now the leather is worn (see pictures) and it squeaks when you turn or recline.
The mechanical replacement parts are about 300 bucks which isn't cheap but not soo bad considering the chair is 6 grand new.

BUT they want 4 grand for a set of new upholstery elements (which they only sell as complete kit).

This is just parts without labor so if i want them to fix it the price would be going up even more...

A new chair is 6 grand.
So with (or even without) labor that's already so close to the price of a new chair that it basically makes no sense to get the old one fixed...

Whats wrong with these people?
They basically TOTALLED a pretty decent chair with their ridicously overpriced upholstery parts...

I think they basically want me to buy a new chair but dont have the balls to tell it like it is...

And yes i tried wd40 for the squeaking and it works but it comes back and the intervalls are getting shorter...
Its simply worn out. (I think the chair is from the 80s)

Is there anything i can do to fix the leather without replacing it & at a reasonable price?

I told them i was almost falling of my chair when i got their estimate

I am NO EXPERT by any means. But I used this stuff:
Amazon product ASIN B0002X520S
On several items(not a chair) and frankly in my opinion this is some kind of wonder salve for leather. I pulled my ball glove from when I was a kid, true USA made back then Rawlings, and it restored the softness and color even. It took, not kidding, 4 applications where I put it on THICK and let it soak in basically. But it hasn't faded again and looks like it did 40 years ago.
I did a leather carry strap on a mongoloid sportsman flashlight(vintage aluminum, 1960's) that had dried so bad I wasn't sure it was the original leather. Color returned to original darker brown and became supple after two applications. First one soaked in completely overnight.

Item three is a 1970's hatchet sheath. Same thing. Plastic-hard dry leather. Took 3 applications on one side and 4 on the other. Leather "drank" the stuff right in overnight.

The last application(s) may need excess wiped off or worked in.

As for the squeeks, WD40 is not a lubricant. Not so much as something you would want to "stick" and keep working. It does work, but I liken it to "evaporating" as it wears off quickly under friction forces. 3-in-one oil works better for household things, and they make a spray can with a straw of penetrating oil that is quite good as well.

Basically, if the leather is "thirsty" or plastic-y hard I think this balm type would work for you. I would try it on a spot obviously first.
They make an oil too, but that is more for extreme dried leather, and boots or such where you are looking for water protection and the like more then for something to be handled. Something besides WD40 would be worth a try for the mechanicals.
Good luck, good furniture is rare nowdays and it is worth repairing. I would look local if all else fails. You would probably find the mail order stuff is $4000 chinese leather half as thick as what is on there anyway. Have a local craftsman do it so you don't have buyer's remorse.

I’d get a cheaper chair… and a newer computer monitor. :D

My Chair has a B body Hurst pistol grip shifter that raises and lowers the chair. My desk had working lights and factory dual exhaust tips!

It's been a constant challenge for me to find a comfortable office chair - and I've been through every
single piece of crap chair Office Max/Depot, Staples and all those Chinese chair-pimpin' ones out there.
They're all made the same, all sized at about 90% of what an adult chair should be and all of them lose
any comfort within a year.
Absolute junk...
It appears my only choice is the giant step up in $$$ to the "pro" ones made for the 24hr dispatchers and such
out there; there is no in-between.
Even tried a couple of those Herman Miller jobbers. They offer all sorts of style and space-age whatever, but
what they don't offer is comfort - not for a man-sized user, anyways.

It's a Charger R/T so it can only be a 440 Magnum,440 Sixpack,or 426 Hemi!

I cut the quarter panels off a 70 Charger R/T from California. They weren't good enough to be put back on the car, but we're too good to throw away, so they ended up on the desk.

For six grand, that chair had better be able to pleasure me in every possible way. And dispense an adult beverage afterwards!

Glad I'm not a big guy since most of the cheap chairs seem to be comfy enough....and most of the times I get them free because some larger guy sticks it out on the curb after finding out it doesn't fit him very well. :) Years ago a buddy found one in a dumpster (yeah, he's a dumpster diver and I've done that from time to time too) behind an office supply store and it was brand new....except they took a box cutter to the seat bottom before sticking it in the dumpster but I had a high back seat cover that fit it just right. It's a shop chair and has been for about 15 years now but found another one down the street that was nice enough to go in the house. I've fallen asleep in the shop chair several times while watching a race or something lol. Yeah, a bit of beer was involved in that.

At work we have tried these from Uline:

Conference Room Chairs, Leather Conference Room Chair In Stock - ULINE

This one a couple guys picked out(maint office) and they both like them a lot. They are average build, 5'10" and they both say the foam seems like good quality and the chair is solid. This first one is not a "big" chair, but it is certainly not made for 12 year olds like so many.

Leather Executive Conference Chair - Black H-8278 - Uline

I got this one, but I am 6' and weigh 295lbs(shaped like an NFL linebacker, not like a football!) so finding a chair is a bit different. I have only had it 3 weeks, but the foam is excellent so far and it is FLAT on the seat, which to me = much higher quality design than the mega-bolsters found in almost every office chair that simply serve to pinch my hips or shoulders and make me hate them. It is an office chair, not a race car seat, i don;t need bolsters to keep me in place while I am taking a corner or something.

Both chairs have simple height adjustment. The second one I am using is deffinately not the typical 5'6" 170lb man size most of the chain store ones are. It is not huge on lumbar support but it is very comfortable for my shoulders and the seat foam is actually more then 2" thick and FLAT so I love it so far. Time will tell if it is going to last a few years of daily use or last about the $250 worth it cost :)

It's a desk - so the inference is that they're attached to the human fart machine sitting in the chair behind it.
If you gotta explain the joke...

I know what you were referring to, I chose to bypass the joke. The exhaust tips are actually bolted to the metal front of the desk.
