Were all 426 early WEDGE engines stamped HP?? Not not.....how did this work? Stumbled across a 426 wedge HP engine with a 67 440 intake and carb on it. Thanks in advance!

The block l have is stamp up and it's a 64

64 max wedges were stamped MP, and all the 426 street wedges that I have seen are stamped HP. It is a pretty small sample size though.

The 426 SW in my '65 Monaco is stamped with HP. At Carlisle approximately 10 or so years ago was a '65 Coronet(if memory serves me) and it had a 426 SW. I asked the owner if I could look at the engine plate and it was NOT stamped with the HP.

Thanks all. I might have read that if it’s stamped V 42 that it’s a Max W motor and if it has the groove cuts atop the cylinders. Crazy how they did things back then.

The V stands for 1964. The 42 is 426 displacement.

How do you know it was the original engine?

For reference only:

This block came out of a 65 Monoco. The guy that I bought it from pulled it out himself so I know it’s origin.

This block is a 64 B-body. I say B-body since the largest engine in a C-body at that time was the 413. 2383FD7A-F864-47E7-9944-68D84C7F8BF8.jpeg

Here's a street wedge I used to have. These are all the same block with different lighting to show the stampings.
