I put Lucas Oil power steering stop leak, transmission stop leak and crankcase stop leak in my car last weekend and was just wondering if anyone knew if these additives were all the same. They look the same. They are all red and they're all as thick as STP oil additive. Maybe thicker. Any ideas?

I haven't used Lucas products, so I can't honestly comment. I have been a user of STP oil user since my first car and have no ******* about it. If it was good enough for Andy Granatelli, it's good enough for me! I'm sure other's will say otherwise, and comment about Lucas. Good Luck

Do you know exactly where and why the ps and trans are leaking? Both aren't all that difficult to correct.

They probably use brake fluid

The ps seems to be leaking from the bottom of the steering box. And the tranny, not sure. I thought I'd try stop leak first before spending hundreds on repairs.

I doubt they will work. I do not have much faith in snake oil remedies.I find it better to carefully locate the source of the leak and fix it.

Just a suggestion for the transmission leak, if you’re underneath look at the neutral safety switch which is known to crack and the fluid likes to ride along the pan rail and may look like the pan gasket seeping when it is not. Don’t ask me how I know this. :luvplace:

you are going to have to replace the pitman shaft seal. There is no additives that will fix that.

Stop leak additives may work for a while.
They basically soften hard seals. The
problem is, they don't stop softening,
and your seals turn to mush and will
eventually leak worse. If the seal is
torn, or has chunks missing out of it,
no amount of stop leak is going to
work. And there are some seals where
stop leak will have no effect at
conditioning or softening depending
on their composition. These stop leaks
aren't all the same. I've not used Lucas,
but have used Blue Devel. It stopped
a transfer case leak I had until I could
afford the time and $$ to fix it the right
way. Just my .02...

Yup, they are a temporary fix at best. They just buy you a little time to scrape the money together.
