Hi Folks,

We are trying to get rested from WOW in KC after a big w/end. I posted a tread earlier about how to show the Convert, up or down. Many weighed in and I appreciate that. The following will be a bit long winded, sorry about that, but if you are going to show your car at World of Wheels and get it Judged, I thought you might find this interesting as to the process. At least the process that we experienced. So, several posts with Pics and a few explanations. At check in, we got one of these:

Notice that the car was put in Class 7100, Restored Convertible. That is important as if the Judges see 2 things they judge to be Not Conforming to the Original car, they will classify it as something else. Likely will go in a Modified Class. More to come. B.

We got very fortunate in that the Show Organizer allowed us a 20 by 20 ft space. That allowed us to show some of our Pics and such a bit better. That said, if one gets a 20 by 20, certain rules apply that may not if one is in a smaller area with other cars. For example, one is not meant to be "inside the ropes" which is inconvenient if you want to chat with interested passersby. We were allowed to set up on Wednesday after 10 am. We had horrible rains here in KC that last week, but fortunately a buddy of mine has a Covered Trailer and was gracious enough to offer to take the car down there. A BIG plus. Here is our set up.

Top Pic shows the "Story Board" side of the set up. That is Sassy Pants her own self making some adjustments. :). The bottom pic is of the Intro side of the car. In the background of the below pic, covered, is a 70 AAR Cuda. More in a bit.

So, the show opened at 3 PM on Friday. Not much traffic till about 6. But, that is when the "Real" awards assembly happened.

That is the Original Owners (my Father In Law/Mother in Law), my wife and her sister. So for these folks, this was their family ride and later my wife's high school ride. Wife's brother came down on Sunday, so the circle was complete. Look at those smiles. :). This was Friday evening early. B.

By the way, notice the 59 Coronet in the background of the pic of FIL and me. It needs some work, but it was nice to see it.

Now starting on the real part. On Friday Night, they began the judging. We were instructed to leave our cars open and everything available to be judged. As it turns out, the judges came back several times to have a look at the car. On Saturday about 730 pM, they delivered the "Class" awards to the cars. Usually they have an awards assembly, but COVID nixed that. Here is what the Judges Left on Saturday evening.

This got us a ticket into the bigger awards eligibility which was awarded at 5 PM on Sunday. B.

On Sunday Morning, the Judges made yet again another round of the cars that had won their classes for competition for the bigger class prizes. Three judges this time. They were all over the car with flash lights and lots of Chit Chat. I think this is when the Real Judging happens. I will have a picture of the Judges Paper in the next upload.
The show closes on Sunday at 6, the awards ceremony is at 5. We have never been to anything like this so, we did not know what to expect. All of the Class Winners were invited. Here is Melinda (aka Sassy Pants) getting the Award. B.

So, it begs the question, What is that for?? Well, we had NO IDEA. Melinda asked when she got it and the fellow was offended we did not know and said, Ask the Judges later. We did. Here is the explanation from the ISCA rule book for Judges.

Of course, our car was in the Number 9 Spot. So, any car, truck, motorcycle, or anything was competing for this award that was in their respective "Restored" class. Glad SP was a Streetable car. :). B.

OK, so here is the Judging Sheet for the car. They will allow you to get them AFTER all of the awards are delivered. Fortunately or unfortunately, the guy who judged our car was a MOPAR guy and the ISCA hired gun for Converts. He lives in Utah and travels to judge cars for ISCA. Here are his notes.

Nice guy. Fortunately, he was willing to give me a "tour" of the car with his notes. It was a VERY interesting experience. Here is what he told us as we walked around the car. Next B.

Sorry for the delay, I needed a glass of wine. It is past 5 here. :). So, here is what we learned from his notes with his "Tour". All cars start out as perfect cars in the eyes of the judges. The job of the Judge is to find reasons Why the car is not perfect. His notes explain that. Oh, important to tell you that us getting ANYTHING as far as an award was a thrill. Our/my expectations were to just show. As I said above, the Real Awards came on Friday Night when the family was there to see the car. They were Thrilled, that thrilled me. They are the REAL judges, IMO. But, I digress.

1. Paint and Body-- Glue on Trunk Seal, He found that there was some Glue around where the Trunk Seal was put on. Not much, but some. We agreed that there was some Glue Showing. He marked us down for a "Waves in the Hood". Upon Further review on Sunday, he said "WOW, it must have been the Lights, hard to see today". So, perhaps a miss there by the judge, but no biggie for us, please see above.

2. Interior -- Door Panel Coming off. I wish I had a pic to show you and perhaps I will when I am next by the car. He was correct. The 66 Dodge Coronet had Stitches along the Carpet area of the Door Panels. They have a Vinyl edging. We did not stitch it, just glued it. So, we agree there.

3. Engine-- Dusty in Hard to Reach areas. Undercoat or Paint drops Drivers Interior Fender-- WOW, he shined his lights below the Master Cylinder behind where the Brake Lines run and on top of the Frame Rail. Yep, there was some dust. Grrrrrrr. The painter did have a bit of Over Spray on the Undercoating that, however it happened, had a few specks on the inner fender. Again, Grrrrr, but fully agree.

4. Chassis Undercarriage and safety-- Dusty. He showed me a place where on top of the Chassis on the left side of the car, he saw some dust. Agree, but WOW he was looking closely. I guess that was a good thing. Now, here is one I did not expect. Undercoated. Remember, he is a MOPAR guy. We undercoated the car with Bed Liner thinking about the next generation. He was quick to say, "That is not how Dodge did the undercoating in 66". Correct on his part. He further explained that he had judged a lot of Kindig cars and our car was undercoated the same as Kindig did. He explained that it cost Kindig clients a lot of points. So now Kingig paints the bottom like Worman does. Interesting discussion.

5. Overall Detail and Appearance-- Shows well. We appreciated the complement.

Finally, and this was a WOW as well. As you can see with the photos, we showed with top down and Boot snapped on. He explained he could not give points for the Top since he can NOT be CERTAIN, there was a top there. Grrrrr. Please see separate string on this discussion.

So, what did we learn??

B.

What we learned is that there are some Wonderful Folks at these shows. We got "coaching" by some really nice big time restoration folks and I appreciated that. We got to know John who had two of the top 5 cars in the show. He has a "builder" that campaigns the car with a crew of two besides himself. So, three guys to take care of two cars. But, John is a VERY NICE man.

By getting the big space down the "middle" we were, unknowingly, put under a huge amount of scrutiny. This is not for everyone. So be careful what you ask for, you might get it. :). That said, we enjoyed the experience.

We are delighted that many folks enjoyed the car and offered some VERY kind words.

For me, this was the first time my FIL, MIL, SIL, and BIL have seen the car finished. To see their faces and hear them chat about the old days when they road in/drove the car, PRICELESS.

The youngest of the family, my FIL's only son while at the show, told me of the story that he was on his Dad's lap "driving". It was a bit slick out. The son decided to "stand up" and in doing so the father pressed the Go Peddle. They spun out and into the ditch they went. NO Worries, they got it out with help. Now, think about it. We all do these things because we LOVE the cars. AND, that is enough. BUT, when we hear a story like that???? Remember that was over 50 YEARS ago, and that show brought that to the front of his mind. WOW!!!!! If any of you have any questions, please ask. What an Experience. Best to you all, Brian

Finally as we left, our New buddies said, See you in St Louis next weekend for the next WOW. We said, Nope, when this show is done, I will put the key in the ignition and drive it home, and I did. :). Best, B.

Car looks great, thanks for sharing all the photos and the story. Been fun watching your progress on SP.

Great sounding experience. Glad you had a great family outing. New memories to add to all the family memories the car already has. Thanks for sharing.

Forgot about this. On Friday afternoon/eve, the local news station caught this for about a 15 second blurb on the Car show.
