So i am close to firing up the 440 and wanted to prime the oil system. I have a pressure tank which i filled with oil and attached to the sender fitting and pumped the oil in the engie. All went well
the i figured i would prime the pump but i couldn't find my primer. so i though i would cut a 5/16 allen wrench weld to it and all that that hassle.
But, my extended torx bit that is used for the Ford 5.0 plenum to go down between the middle runners has a 5/16 hex shaft Well what do you know it worked like a champ.
it is a 3/8 drive snap-on torx bit especially designed for the 5.0

But how many of us here have one of those lol

There are a lot of Mopar people that took beginner Ford classes.
Yeah, my first engine rebuild er overhaul was a 289.....but no one ever said I needed to prime that thing lol.

Never owned a pherd. Only mopar. I made a priming tool by brazing an allen wrench to a piece of round stock. That was 40 years ago and still in use. ruffcut

My first engine rebuild was a 332 Ford school bus motor. I was 15 and the engine was only one year old. It wasn't big enough for the loads. Second engine was a 59 413. One of my dad's customers suggested I grind the rod caps to tighten up the clearances! I didn't.

When I used to work we had a number of 5.0 in the cop cars and some light trucks. All the heavier stuff were diesel Cummins and cat so I had to buy a lot of oddball stuff like the plenum torx bit

In the mid 70's I ran across a 66 Mustang Fastback then a 65 Fastback and they were cheap enough that I couldn't pass them up. I also had a 72 340 Challenger Rallye and a 69 Dodge pickup and shortly after bought a 74 Dodge pickup in 76 and 3 Mustang coupes to flip and then a 70 340 A66 Challenger....to keep. By late 78 all the Fords were gone for good. And my primer tool was made using an old pump drive and distributor shaft and a distributor body. Made it about 40 years ago too....and you did good by not owning any Ferds imo lol

I cut my wrenching teeth on my parents' Ford wagons before I owned my first car.
