426 wedge

Theoretically, a set of 426 HEMI rods (.100 longer than 440/426 wedge) could be used with a 383 piston, and be a reasonable amount down in the hole.
I'm betting a custom forged set of pistons is the cheaper route.
The egge pistons above are basic rebuilder cast pistons that are three times what they should cost, because they are custom too, (six week wait) and nobody else makes em.
As others, including me, have said, the best cheapest way to use a 426 wedge block is to bore it .070 and use 440 pistons.(if you cant find used pistons, that is).
Whatever you decide to put together for that block, it will need to be balanced.
Edit: way back when, boring a 383 or 426w .040 or .060 was commonplace. If .060 doesnt bother you, boring to .070 is literally making the cylinder wall only .005 thinner. If custom forged .040s are $1000, and 440s are $500, i know which way i would go. (Sonic testing is your friend tho, first).

hi 72, if I was closer I would swap you a nice 440 or 400 block for your (freebee) 426 block,,, as I have TOO many 440 ones and still need a 426 block after looking for TEN YEARS. Some folks don’t realise how lucky they is?
I’m gonna be doing a Duster race car too, but after many years of headers issues with RB blocks in an A-body I am doing a 451 engine into a 400 block...

If your gonna race the 426, just get a balanced kit from Brandon at 440 Source!:drama::blah::poke:

4.500 crank with 7.100 rods and nice new pistons, making 526 cubes!!!

Ps why do I need a 426 block, yep you guessed it, I got a 1964 vehicle...

Wouldn't it be easier to find one of the two castings shared by 413 and 426 and just find the 413? Worked for me. Also, being that 413 pistons can be had (cast) made it cheaper to rebuild.

I’d swap him a 440 block and rods for the 426 block. I’d even throw in a set of pistons although If I was building a motor I’d go .030 over. Hell for $2100 and the 426 block I’d sell him a 440 and everything to build a 494 stroker except a cam, timing set, and cam bearings. Everything but the block is new. Ross pistons, Eagle crank and I can’t remember who the rods were from. Of course it would also depend on where he’s located.

I'm clear in nv,im either goin

Keep your 440 block 2100 bucks l could have my 426 wedge bulit into a short block at least.l could get wedge pistons through Hughes or Campbell.

Hi Guys,

I've read this a few times today and I just had my vaccine so I'm a bit groggy still.

Hi Guys,

Where did $2100 dollars come from???

What is ''I'm clear in nv,im either goin'' is there some text missing???

I was just saying ''I would happily swap a 440 block for your 426 block'' if you was closer lol...

If you look at my avatar, thats a 512ci motor (440 source kit) with Edelbrocks and a Crower roller cam with crane roller lifters and Gold-rockers!
Runs twelves in a 66 Polara and driven most days in London Town...:thankyou:
I was offering to trade the OP A 440 block, pistons, and rods for his 426 block straight up. I also have a complete stroker kit that was available for an additional $2100. I probably should have made that clearer in my original reply.

WoW M-Code, there's me thinking NO one wants 426 blocks and you want it more badly than me!

I'm bit confused with your Avatar, looks more like a 64 Fury, OOH I get it now...:drama::luvplace::thankyou:

OP vs the OAP...:mob:

When I originally joined I owned a M-Code 440 ‘cuda Notchback but I have always been a B-body guy and it just took me 30 years to find the right one.

OMG, you had a 440 CUDA!

I saw one in an LA Moparshop, they is rarer than hemicars!!!:thumbsup::thumbsup:

I had a 383 ragtop 69 CUDA, drove like a tractor...:wtf::screwy:

I'm not gettin rid that 426 block.either goin to get custom pistons for it or bore it to a 440.post was to see if anyone had pistons on here layin around that sale.Seen in that past that others had good luck finding 426 wedge pistons on here for there 426 wedge.

I don't get it ?
The 426 Block..... is just a 440 with a really small bore ? and less webbing/weaker ?

So besides any romantic inclinations to verbalizing "Four-twenty-six" over a beer to friends ?
or a numbers/clone Maxi effort ?
it's just a 440 with a really small bore ? and harder to make Compression/punch up turbulence with ?

You can have them sonic tested and bored 070 to use standard 440 pistons.people do it all the time, even back then to.

It’s 14 cubic inches... probably not “really small”, people usually have a reason though, often a desire for a year correct option / casting. After that the casting is very similar to the musclecar era 440s. Things didn’t get thicker until later.

So.... what are used forged solid dome 426 + .060 pistons worth? I never posted mine, cause i never thought anyone would want them, they're HEAVY!
(And even already owning them, i would bore a 426 .070.)

I maybe interested in those .060 426 wedge pistons

Don’t just settle on your parts, these are your pistons and they must live in the hole. My theory’s are different, I will only use mopar parts or parts made for my mopar. I don’t like Chevy parts in my mopar, I’ll work some OT and get the custom pistons for the 426 and build it old school.. but hey I like it old and simple.. imo I like the 413/426 it ashamed they get treated worse than a 383. They were all good engines it just depends on what you want to do and can afford.. a 426 wedge belongs in an old b body IMO. Best of luck, don’t give up do it once and do it right!

@muscle72 , i am a couple hundred miles away from them, and i cant inspect them to see if they are saleable. And, im not due to go home for a couple weeks, yet. ,
When i do, I'll pm you what i find.
I can tell you, they look like very old Grant high compression full skirt solid dome. They will need lots of piston to wall clearance. I took them out of a maxwedge 426, and with only a dingle ball hone, put standard bore 440 arias in it.
If you are not in a hurry, i will check them out when i get home and get a p.m. to you.
