Hey Guys. I thought about putting this in the resto mod section but looking specifically for 72 B-Body. I thought about building one but most every one that I have seen looks home built.
I am going to retain my Slap Stik auto shifter and not afraid of doing some fabrication to make it look natural. I don't have any pick and pull auto parts by me otherwise I would head out with my tape measure. I really like this 71 Charger with the 19 Challenger console except that it is angled left and does not look right with the drop down step in our lower dash.
The other issue is that a lot of newer cars have the e-brake slot built into the console and looks out of place. Anyone using a "modern" console in their B-Body with floor shift?

Might be just me but every time I see something like this (a new car item retrofitted amongst an old car interior) it looks totally out of place and not great in my opinion.

The stock console looks waaaay better than doing something like the one pictured above in your post

Wow. I had to look twice to see what that was. I think it fits well, just based on the picture. The large center console with the bolstered seats really fill up that interior.

I don't like new car stuff put in old cars! Except for hell crates that's ok!!!
I've seen many cars with newer interiors it just looks weird and out of place!
Now maybe take an org console and modify it a little that should be ok . But it's your car .
I get where your coming from we need cup holders in these things!!!!

The 71/74 console shape emulates somehow the dash pad shape. Is a nicelly matched piece. I find hard to get something matching better than the stock piece.

Diff stuff are the rest of years.

I've seen the 75/76' and up B-body consoles used and they look pretty good. Have a raised arm rest and factory shifter location, but not sure how much work needs to go into getting it to line up exactly.

Unfortunately the 75 and up B-Body consoles are not easy to find and if you do, they are pretty beat up.
The Avenger is a nice option and I can fab something for the shifter area. Except for the e brake slot.

Also the 300 is nice.

dunno if you are noticed the shifter is not centered and all those consoles get the shifter on center... at least that's what i can I see.

I noticed that but that whole section plastic cover in the shifter section comes out. I can then fabricate a new cover and add a boot.

Thanks Hijinx. I did see that and do like the first link but by the time add all of the extra options and shipping it's going to get pretty pricey.....plus need finishing. That's why I was thinking about a newer factory unit and add a shifter boot and plate plus fabricate something for the front section up to the dash to hold a double din head unit. USB, Bluetooth and back-up cam built into the head unit as well.

Nothing to add, just watching with interest as eventually I'd like to fit something into my wagon. In my case, another reason for wanting a modern/custom console is to get some air vents to the back seat area.

I'm mind, customizing the interior in that manner is a good way to ensure that you will never be able to sell your car. A factory interior (and the car in general) are good investments. The internet is full of hacked up cars that are being sold for way less than was invested.

That is the interior I want.

Was looking at modern LX consoles for 72 Charger (NOT OE in any way, resto). At 6'4" tall, side leg movement has kind of an issue in 15 Chall, especially on road trips.
Buddy seat or old console?? Picked up CLEAN console, even ash tray there, for $80. Going modern screen radio (sat radio GREAT for road trips), USBs etc... Radio will be fabed where @4mulas 2nd pic cassette player is.

Is this your car in the picture Joe? I'd love to know the name and model number of the steering wheel!

While I do like modern improvements I too think that transplanting a new LX type console into a vintage Mopar is not complimentary to the car, the lines do not flow well. That said as someone who has and does own a number of cars that had the stock consoles I can say without hesitation that while the factory one looks ok it is useless and frequently a source of rattling and other problems.

I thought the voice recorder was only available for bench front. How is that mounted?
