Which mufflers to buy?

Sorry for resurfacing the old thread; but I'm getting ready to buy mufflers to replace the Flowmasters on my car as they're just too loud though sure...they sound great; but after 2 years the novelty has worn off. My '63 has headers and 3" pipes (too damn big for my motor but was talked into it w/o my doing more research). And looking at muffler selections it's like looking at a menu in a Greek restaurant...man. I'd still like a nice sound. After sifting through the posts here it seems that Accurate or ECS is liked for their sound and not too loud. Well, asking since you have experience with these two types of mufflers, you have any preferences one vs the other? Thanks.
And keep in mind that a 3" muffler will be louder than the same model in a 2.5".

Triple pass(turbo or hemi style) will be quieter than your flowmasters. What you are looking for, is what most people with 3" systems dont want: a 3"in/out that necks down to 2 1/2 internally. I dont know what pattern of in/out location you have, but i would consider a house brand turbo from summit or jegs, hemi length if you can find one.

ECS & Accurate don't offer 3".... You should probably consider Dynomax Turbo Mufflers..

Thanks - I was considering 2.5" mufflers on the 3" system since the 3" is too large for my motor. So far haven't found info saying this is a bad idea talking with a few mechanics; but I'm no expert. And, lol a highly reputed mechanic though gave me the recommendation to put 3" on a motor that generates about 100HP less than a 3" system needs...
