To clay or not to clay

Do you clay your car every time you wax?
I know there are very fine clays and corse clays for more contaminated paint
Detailing and wax has come a long way from when I spent hours using Blue Coral
Any thoughts ?

I don't but I don't wash my cars either, just wipe them.
Most of the time they are parked inside under a cover.
But I do notice on my Charger about every 2-3 years I'll rub it out and wax it and the difference is noticeable.
For a quick easy wax I like the Meguiars cleaner wax liquid type.

Did mine twice when I first got it 4 1/2 yrs. ago...the first bar was filthy with overspray, dirt, road film & other good stuff from the po who knew nothing about cars. Second bar not so bad. Did it again last year just to get old wax off and start over. Probably will be a long time before the next one.

the only time you need clay is when you rub you hand over and it feels rough like over spray got on it

Not if you have old enamel paint like mine.
It gets oxidized and you need to physically remove it.

that's when you buff , clay can get particles in it and cause more damage , clay is for removing particles not oxidation

I just purchased some of the nano-ceramic cleaner and wax...should be here in a day or two. I'm pretty anxious to see how it works.

I’m guilty of going too long between wax jobs. Years ago it was the complete opposite situation. I have a clay kit but haven’t tried it yet, will get around to it eventually. I like Meguiar’s products.

I love clay. First time I do a car that's new to me even if the paint looks good it's amazing what comes out of the paint.
