Obviously it is a 727 automatic on my 440 charger. Runs good, nice idle, but it will quit when it goes into gear. I drove it around the property last fall. It had the same issue but, functioned in gear (fwd and rev) while driving.

advance working?

What is the rpm in N or P?

extreme vacuum leak maybe

Mine started doing that out of the blue man years ago.
Would start & run great until it got warmed up & drove a bit then it started randomly dying every now & then and after getting it started putting it in gear acted like a kill switch.
Would start right up then immediately die when put in gear.
Checked this, that & FINALLY chased it down to the positive coil terminal that had been taped over sometime when my dad had it worked on in the distant past.
The wire only had about 5 strands actually connected.
When cold the tape held the connection tight so it had continuity but when it got hot it drooped & didn't conduct enough electrons when put in to gear and idled down.
I cut it off, put on new terminal and never had that problem again.
That took the longest for me to figure out even though so simple. Need to investigate the reasons people did what they did...Good luck with yours!

Did you adjust/set the idle mixture screws after you put the new plugs in?
If not get it warm and then adjust them in neutral just go for max RPM for now.
This should be done with the air cleaner in place if possible.
If not set it a hair lean, the air cleaner will richen it slightly if anything.

Then try in gear at reasonable RPM and adjust again in gear if required.
I'm assuming there are no vacuum leaks, if I recall everything was in good shape.
Maybe check the nuts/gasket on the carb base.
Let me know if you need more help.
(I'd really like to hear it run and go for a ride in that thing...)

fuel filter?

The entire fuel system is new, and I do mean entire ! Coil wiring I replaced last year, it looked sketchy. Vacuum advance is working. Carb bolts are tight.

I have not adjusted idle mixture screws and I may have the RPM too low. I will play with those settings tomorrow. Wish me luck !

Don, I have plates and a temporary 10 day inspection sticker (now expired) on it now....I want to drive it too !
