Signed up yesterday for the Harris County Pct2/Houston Food Bank food drive for today thinking that it was to be a 'lunch box' meal. One of the questions was 'how many in my family' and my reply was 'just me' figuring they wanted to know how many meals to give me. After over an hour of waiting in line I got to thinking it wasn't worth waiting that long just for lunch. Man, was I wrong!! Loaded me up with enough to feed a family of 50.....well, more like 10 or more! The only 'meat' was some chicken patties and there were 2 bags of those with about 15 in each bag. Not bad tasting either....at least not to me lol. Will freeze the majority of those....and I'm thinking with the right stuff with them, they'll make some decent sandwiches. The bulk of it was mostly veggies and fruit which isn't a bad thing. Most of it will go bad before I can eat it all even if I double up on my eating so I'm looking for some that can use what I can't. Also got two gallons of milk will will be frozen too.

There, a thread that isn't going to turn into a bitch fest :D

i don't think you can freeze milk
Been doing it. It does change the color and texture a bit but so far it hasn't hurt me lol. I mostly use milk for when some recipe calls for it and that's not a whole lot. Might give away a gallon because 1 gallon will last me awhile! I usually buy a half gallon and put it into smaller containers to freeze....

America at it's best, taking care of Americans! 440'
Yeah....when the wife left, she didn't want much.....except for as much money as she could get. I got the house and 99.9% of the 'stuff' in the shop. She wanted the bed and I told her she could take it along with the matching pieces but I'm keeping the mattress and she declined! lol Finally got me a mattress I like and it wasn't going anywhere.....:D But my SS check isn't all that great since I started taking it early.

Thick toasted bun, the grilled chicken part with a thick slice of cheese, thick lettuce and tomato, and a few different dips to stick it in, that's a good sandwich. Of course, it's still good even without the chicken parts, whatever they might be.

I've always admired the Lakota belief that being successful in hunting and able to provide for widows, orphans, or anyone in need, was a sign that you were in harmony with the Earth.
It would be a comfort to know that if you perished, people would aspire to provide for your family if they needed it.

I'm keeping my head above water for the time being. Vet bills were a bit hard during Jan and Feb but I've managed to keep some other bills low. I donate to a couple of different orgs when I can and looks like I'm reaping what I sowed. These days having a big bank account isn't happening or wanted. My 1st wife is supposed to come by Sunday afternoon to pick up the excess for a family in need.....

I was going to jump in on the freezing milk part, but the thread moved too fast for my comment to be relevant. But yeah, you can freeze milk. Happens up here all the time. Sometimes it settles out or separates when you thaw it, but you just shake it up. Back when our groceries were trucked in seasonally we used to buy milk in bags, and freeze dozens of bags of milk.

Where you live, it freezes in the udder.

Bottles of soda are the worst.
A few years ago we had a half wit on our crew.
When he quit I was given his work van to use. It was a pig pen, and he didn’t clean it before he left.
He had left a bottle of cream soda in the cup holder on the dash. It froze, shattered, then thawed, draining a litre of sticky pink goo that got every where.
Freezing affects many things in weird ways. Cheese. You freeze your cheese, and when it thaws it crumbles easily. Instead of grating cheddar you just rub it between your hands and it crumbles. Latex paint turns into cottage cheese consistency, ruining it. Music CD’s and DVD’s shatter into slivers. You can partially freeze beer and pour off the alcohol. You have to get it just right, I don’t have the patience but you freeze beer until it just crystalizes and you can pour off the alcohol. I like beer, I just drink it how it is.

I had a case of Pure Protein freeze in the back of my pickup truck. All the glass bottles broke and I had a rainbow flag dripping down my bumper. Yes, I was ribbed about that.
