Still in the early stage of restoration on my 71 road runner and trying to line up all the paint. The car is original k6 exterior and i am leaning towards K2 vitamin c orange. I need to know if the paint on the door end GT8 will remain the same.

Not for sure on what your asking.
If your asking about a color change and of you should paint door ends , jambs ,ect.
My answer is yes you should have those areas painted, after pulling latchs, prep and masking vin lable ect.
Sorry if that's not what your after

Sorry for the confusion. The end to the door that would show when closed was painted to blend in with the interior color on some cars. I have an E body and the interior panels wrap around the door so when closed no exterior color shows through. The pic I posted is factory and the exterior is K6 (autumn bronze) and at the door end was painted tan poly to match the tan interior when closed.

If you are doing a color change you would want to at least paint where you see all of the exterior color now but ideally you would want to paint everything inside and out; floors, door jambs, etc.

I thought color changes were kept/done under the weather strip. But I have been know to be wrong (several times).

Are you changing the interior color? If not you want that strip between the weatherstrip and door panel to stay tan. If changing match it to the new interior color.

The interior color will remain tan. I figured the door edge color was related to the interior, just looking for confirmation. This is the first B body I have tried to restore and never noticed the paint on the door because the K6 and GT6 are so close.

That color is denoted on your fender tag between the interior code and SPD. It is the interior door frame paint and its based on the interior color so yes your thinking correctly.

T2R9 thanks for the reply.
I wonder if the factory painted the A pillars to match the interior. On some E bodies with black interior the A pillars are black out.

Never seen the A pillars painted to match the interior on a 71-74 B-body always body color.

Did the factory black out the wind shield channel where the butyl tape goes? My channels were rough and it looked like urethane was used to fill the channel. Took many hours to pull the trim, wind shield and clean the channel.

That's more of a brushed on prep for the butal when the glassed was installed.

Not really on topic but curious how you are addressing that rot in the lower windshield channel corners? Mine are rusted out as well and nobody makes repair panels...

The interior of the door from the weatherstrip inward, was matched to the interior color.

Your lucky day, my body shop just finished the repairs at the A pillar corners and sections of the window channel. You are correct in that there are no patch panels available for our B bodies but we are in luck that they closely match the E-bodies. My body repair man called Grave Yard cars for help and they suggested buying the E-body A-pillar patch panel and to cut off the upper door hinge bolt hole portion and discard. The left over section matches the B-body. Next you will have to make a dimple in the upper cowl for the trim to mount properly and there again the GYC guys explained the procedure. You will need a correct lower corner stainless trim piece which has the dimple and heat the patch red hot and using the trim push down to make the impression. Hope this helps.

Thanks! Fortunately I have the trim.

As long as this thread went active again, I do have a question? Color change from Lemon Twist to the black interior was done under the weather strip. My question is how far did it go? It is not on the leading edge of the door by the hinges, but I am not sure how far on the bottom of the door it went. My pics only show a dusting of yellow paint on the door bottom so I am guessing it stopped just after the turn (where no one would be seeing it). Any answers would be great. 73RR

It's hard to see on my doors as the exterior K6 is very close to the GT8 but it covers the same area as the black on your door.

Your picture is accurate on you door. It was just under the bottom of the door with a cut line, and no paint on the front. Pic of my old 71 original paint car.
