Am i crazy (Driving 69 Satellite from Kentucky to Oregon)?

Congrats on the trip ! Thats got to be a good car for having so few problems !

We made it! Over 2000 miles. It’s been awesome having all of you follow along! I’ll post some pictures tomorrow of the car in her new home and answer any questions plus reply to posts I didn’t get a chance to earlier. Thank you all so much for coming along on the journey and for all the advice and help! My eyes can’t stay open any longer so I’m off to bed. Good night!

Ha, ha. I bet you slept well last night. You put more miles on your car in a week than some guys I know do in 20 years. You know it inside and out now.

I have had that stall issue before, on a 318 Duster I was driving 60 mi one way to work, it was slack in timing chain. But it could be a number of things!
I say throw a celebration BBQ and invite us all over!

I am sitting here wondering how many newer cars he passed along the way sitting broken down along side the road.

Thanks guys! Haha..... i did sleep in this morning. Was pretty beat from several days on the road. It was really awesome though! I would definitely do it again although i might splurge a little on accomodation better than The Backseat Inn! It was especially neat reading all your posts along the way. That really kept me going and i felt like i wasn't alone on the journey. You alll gave me some good laughs!

Got up this morning and though it would be nice and i could get some really nice photos of the car in her new home. Turns out the weather isn't all that nice but i did manage to get some decent pics. It was actually snowing during some of these pics but just a little bit. It won't stick.

I still haven't figured out the sputtering issue. I did notice today when i took her out for photos that it does sputter or misfire even when i'm up to speed and hit the gas pedal hard. I need go back and read over you're guys post better about these issues.

Here are a few pics i took today.

A couple more photos. The Magnum 500 looks 1000 times better than those other wheels! Gotta work on her stance/rake or whatever you call it. I don't like the rear sitting so low compared to the front.

Haha... quite a few! I was thinking about my 50+ year old car passing those broken down modern cars beside the road everytime i passed one.

I know it a lot better now! I did get pretty comfortable driving it after a while. I'm not gonna lie, i did lock the brakes up a couple times because i wasn't use to driving such a beast!

Gotta wonder if possibly a plug wire is breaking down or a plug is giving up... Or as previously mentioned maybe the points are closing up.......

Road trips can find any weakness.....

Very well could be. It seems to have gotten progressively worse. Took her out this morning for a couple at home photos and it seems to sputter/stall even when i'm up to speed and hit the gas pedal. Those are things i'll need to check for sure.

Thanks for the documentation of your journey ... I got a big kick out of it, sounds like something I would have done years ago.. or not to long ago while heading to Waco area with a buddy and dealer serviced (freshly at that) K2500 Chevy some where into Haiti Mo we lost an alternator and when I checked the rest I put on an idler and tensioner with a new belt.. He knew me to come prepared so all we had to do was find parts . He was posting on FB never travel without your mechanic while I fixed it all back up and burnt myself ... it got better! We drove further and lost the transfer case sounded like a jet engine, yep we were in trouble in Ak. pulling the car trailer. I got creative as I realized what happened, chain rubbed a hole thru the transfer case and lost all the lube.. I had a limited time frame to get to Texas and back, and it wasn’t happening so I filled the transfer case with Lucas engine oil additive on a gravel parking lot and we turned it around and headed back... it was noisy and bearings were screaming and when it got quiet he held the wheel with both hands and we waited , it made it 500 miles back with several refills of Lucas and 90w! What a trip! We got back to town and had some beers! I won’t let someone talk me out of taking my truck ever again .. Yes we’re are still great friends and he went on the next trip for truck sheet metal with me in my Ram. It’s a dam good laugh, what you can do in a pinch.. even though it’s way wrong!

Haha.. that's an awesome story. Thanks!

This experience - and this car - will be with you the rest of your life, Sam.
It's truly wonderful to follow along - so many of us have had these kinds of experiences in our
own times, so we're living vicariously through you now.
See it through. Be careful!

Did the fuel filter look like this?

My 67 Dart had gas that looked like THIS:

Lucky for me, the filter caught it. I took off the front float bowl and it was clean in there.
Low speed stumbles could be a failing accelerator pump. Are there any vacuum leaks?

Dang, mine didn't look too bad really but i replaced it anyways. Didn't do the trick. I'm pretty new to carburetors so i'm not exactly sure what it is. I dind't find any obvious vacuum leaks or disconnected hoses. I does seem to sputter/miss now even when up to speed and hitting the gas pedal.

Call it a day man, no need to rush specially so close to home, find a nice motel, take a hot bath, have a nice and hearty meal, tomorrow, early in the morning, clean the the carb thoroughly, and enjoy pleasantly the last miles to home, you are not a young man to hurry things up, quite the ride you have!

Haha... i am getting up there! It's true, i used to be able to rough it a lot better.
