1970 Bee 440 4 spd ran great before I removed gauges. Install gauges fired up ran 3 minutes then died.Fired again then died.wont start with Car on Battery 12.7- pos side of coil 5- ballast hot side 11.1 other side 5. Have gas. All wires new. All gauges worked when it started. Could I of pinched a wire on the cluster installing it that could of cause this? thanks Dave

I am sure you are frustrated but this is something simple, just spend some quality time to check everything.

It’s 6 of one and a half dozen of the other, you need them all

I guess you all missed I have gas :BangHead:

Well, assuming you have a good fuel pump too & gas up to the carburetor, the your problem must be spark. Remove one plug wire, install and extra spark plug, ground the plug at the threads on a big bolt, don't touch the car & have a friend crank the engine to check for spark. If no spark, then continue with your tests. Your ballast resistor numbers sound like the ballast resistor is good. Do you have points or electronic ignition? I think the next step is to check the coil (& before that, check that the coil/cap wire is secure). After that, distributor.

"Positive side of coil 5-ballast hot side 11.1 other side 5" ? I think ballast is dropping too much voltage. When in the run mode it should be about 9volts feeding the coil. Also 11.1 to the hot side seems low since your battery is 12.7.

I used to go to the used car lots late at night (back in the 50's, early 60s), and wanted to hear what some of them sounded like. I wasn't going to steal them, but I could I wanted to. Just hot wire it. Clip a wire from the + side of the battery, to the + side of the coil.....them use a pair of pliers (or whatever) to jump the terminals on the starter relay. With gas in the carb, it should fire.

If you are running points check them and if OK try another condenser.

did the wire jump and no luck, turned out to be a bad coil. Changed the coil turned over and fired right up. :praying: I think the big man upstairs was tired of my whining.
