Still assessing the overall condition of the 69 Bee I purchased a couple weeks ago. Have verified VIN, engine, transmission, fender tag, and radiator core support are all matching.

The trunk lip area per the pic seems to have this area cut out. Appears previous, not so great work, done in this area and around the quarter could have a bearing? Possible this area had been replaced and was cut out to prevent confusion? Cant think of why anyone would want that piece of metal, only matches this car. Weird

Seems to me that if someone was trying to obtain the numbers for another car that the core support and VIN# would also be gone. If I see what I think I do, the trunk gutter is going to need some work anyway.

get inside and look from underneath, sometimes the stamp shows that way, but it reads dyslexic. no joke!

there doesn't seemto be much uniformity when it comes to that location for numbers. I have seen super crappy, and then again very nice. I guess what day of the week was it?

that lip looks weird. Am I seeing body filler gooped on there?

back in the day nobody cared, they hung quarters, beat on them, and threw them together.

... but you at least left the lip for the trunk seal. I put full quarters on my car back in '78 when I was 16 (me and my 20 year old buddy) and at the time didn't even give though to the trunk lip, hell we didn't even pull the OE seal off doing them. Pics above have had no body work from that era to today.

Yeah that seems to be the area cut out on mine...

You see correctly. Quite a bit of work actually.

Yeah seems could just be some sloppy work in that area. Just seems strange that part is cut out, but as you say there would be no use for it without the rest of it.

common to be damaged/ cut. How is the Bee overall?
Some really good, some not so much. As I understand it previous owner that passed away was in process of restore. Engine and transmission (4 speed) have been rebuilt and are super clean. Not exactly back in order but engine compartment appears to have been restored and painted correct color when engine was out. Has had brakes gone through and appear to be in good order. Some front suspension parts have been replaced, but more needed. Drive shaft has been reconditioned. Dash gauges have been reconditioned.

Needs trunk pans and misc metal, partial rear floor pan, possibly quarters and A-Pillar repair, and a lot of body work overall. Seats are good but will need recovered. Headliner is bad. Most interior is missing; door panels, handles, window cranks, etc etc etc. Need all of that at the right time. Have no way of knowing whether any of the old stuff exists as that owner passed and son sold it to the party that I bought it from. Supposedly knew nothing about the car.
