I'm looking into purchasing factory repop Rallye wheels just to have and to put on when going to a show or just for the look. I took one of the current wheels off and I measured from middle of the current wheel, to the lip and came up with 5" backspace. Looking at repop wheels from Classic and Year One, I only see a 4 5/8" as the widest backspace. Did I measure wrong? The rear is wider than front and that is kinda what I'm looking for. The current wheels on it, my dad bought the wheels and tires back in '89-'90 then the car sat until I brought it back to life. Yes, I still have a few more odds and ends to finish on it. Advice/opinions? Thanks!

I'm looking at 15X8 at least in the rear and 15X7 for the front

Is really HARD TO FIND trim rings for 8"s unless you make a custom set of rears with the same deep than 7"s in front and the added inch just on backspace. But the backspace limit to not disturb with springs is around 4.75" or so as far I recall depending on tires. There is a great thread about that applied to 3rd gen Chargers at dodgecharger.com who PaulG ( Member also here ) wrote up looong time ago. Sure Plymouths could be slightly diff due te wheel opening shape, but the same about inner side.

IMHO still with the right trim, 8" rallye wheels doesn't look right. The deal with the trim is virtually complete the half circle of the Rallye holes giving the full circle view, that is not completelly reached with 8"s still from the factory... of you care about that.

BTW rim size ( width and diameter, including offet measures ) is measured at the tires seat on rim, not at the outer lip

This is what I talk about the full circle view completed by the trim. This view is not reached with 8" wheels, still being factory

Althought there is a guy who told it fit 7"s trim ring on their 8"s wheels and this was the look he obtained.

But it must be something weird there. Maybe will change depending on manufacturer of the trim, as another member of Moparts also replies on here with a huge gap problem using 7" wheel trims on 8"s

There is a guy there also talking about the custom made backspace to get 8"s and the correct look for the front, adding the 1" just on backspace as I told previouslly

Yes is an old thread but as far I know nothing has changed since that!
