First off, thanks @R413 for this thread and pix.
Thanks to all for posting pix.
In the 1970s, I used to go to downtown New Orleans to the Main Public Library to look at old Hot Rod Magazines and I compared all of the factory specs on the engines of the 60s era, and the 413 and 426 WEDGE engines were impressive.
Although some will say, and I won't argue that the Cross Ram intake, various versions of 2 x 4bbl factory intakes can definitely be outperformed with modern day intake and carb or EFI alternatives, MAN-OH-MAN do those factory Cross Rams look SO FINE!! I would also expect that they were as good as or better than the best offerings of that time period?
Max Wedge port size!! Something I will finally get to experience with Trick Flow 270s on my 541.
I'M A HUGE FAN OF THE 413s and 426 Max Wedge engines, the awesome intakes and exhaust manifolds, and the cars they came in!!
I had 413 superstock decals on my four bolt valve covers when i had my max in my car. Of course, it really was a 426 max, out to 440. (Told tech it was 410hp, too!)
I have a 1959 413 in the storage barn. Bought it with a buddy in 1966 to build a drag car (Studebaker Lark) that never materialized. Ran it in my 63 Savoy for 10 years with the CI Torqueflite. It has been apart since the late 70's.
