Hi All . Hope you can assist
I have a 1969 Dodge charger 440 RT here in New Zealand which has been through a major restoration
The Panel shop has lost the Fender tag during the resto process and now can't find any info as to the Colour code for the repaint. I have the Chassis tag with the dash XS29L9B448039 Is it possible to get fender tag and broadcast sheet info off my chassis number ? Your help would be very much appreciated
Thanks Darren

nope vin doesn't have that description in it, fender tag tells color vin, I'd look in some spots where they might not have touched yet maybe you can find some original paint. then I would kick someones *** for losing a fender tag for a rt charger. not necessarily in that order. good luck!

That's the vin which does not have any paint info. Did you have any pic's of it before it was lost?

I think they should pay for that mistake as this has a high impact on your cars value.
If you dont have a fender tag and also no buildsheet it's not possible to determine options as far as i know.

I hope they aren't shady and use your tag on another car.

I bought it already striped of paint from the blaster pre panel work , The car was black when he blasted it but not original and he cant remember base colour

You can paint it any color you like now. It wont effect the value of the car now.:poke:

I'd go down there and blow your ******* top off! That's a very important part! But, I don't have mine either. Someone stole it from my dad before I got the car. And I don't care because you can build the car the way you want it and nobody can prove you wrong!

Does the title or any of the importation paperwork list the color? The paperwork has to be on file somewhere in a government office?

Are there any parts to the car that are bolted on at all? Maybe in the trunk under where the quarter panel fits? They must have missed something surely. Do you have the original interior? Maybe the build sheet is there?

If you can prove they lost the tag ? File a lawsuit. Your car is worth thousands of dollars less because of their negligence.

Expensive lesson. Always remove original tags and paperwork before the car goes in for any work. Keep it in a safe.

Welcome from North Florida.
Not sure about NZ but in most states here in the U.S.A. the registration will have the base color listed.
At least that would be a start as to narrow the color choices offered that year.

Agree. I'd be having me some *** over this!

With the tag lost, even if you figure out the original color, painting it that color won't bring back the value of the lost tag. You may as well paint it any color you wish and enjoy it.

If the car has been registered here in New Zealand, the colour will be listed on the papers....unless someone was dumb enough to register the car with the colour it was currently wearing (ie primer or something else). CARJAM the car from the plate.

Best place to find original paint is under the windshield rubber gasket, or if that has gone, check the springs on the trunk lid, and possibly the rear parcel shelf inside.
Hopefully the car has not been dipped, and there is some evidence of paint left.

BTW, hop on over to the Welcome Wagon and share some pics of your ride.....

I see where you are located...I hope that it wasn't Matamata Panel & Paint doing the job.
