Since I can't get a 4.30 gear. I may have to change tires.
Right now I'm running Phoenix 29.5x10.5-15with 10" Rims

Has anyone run 31X10.5 - 15's with 10" Rims? Phoenix recommends 12"

The section width goes from 13.0 to 14.7

Or I could put a 4.11 gear in the car and use a 28" tall tire.

Are you sure you are not looking at 31x10.5W ? (NOT meant as an insult, that kind of section increase implies a W to me)
That said, ive never used either size, but if it really has a 10.5 tread, i wouldn't worry a second about a ten inch rim. The tread would be flatter on a twelve, however.
Edit; this IS only an opinion, but thats what you asked for, lol.

Sorry, you are correct...it's a 10.5 W and the tread width goes from 10.7 to 11.7.

Thanks

Mickey makes a 10.5x33, if you have the room for that height . But that "10.5" has 11.2 tread on the ground. 4.56s?

You know... I don't think the 33's will fit, but I see they have a 31 10.5W... I ran the math and with the 4.56 I have now, it will put me at 6875 RPM at the traps which is close enough to my target which is 6800. lol

I wonder why Mickey's recommend 10" rims and Phoenix recommends 12"....

You may have pointed me in the right direction, Thanks 33!

let me see if I still got this right

IIRC

the narrower wheel will just affect the sidewalls/cross sections
might give it a tad bit more rollout/taller, lil' less contact patch (? if any)
lil' bit less air/psi, will compensate
& cross-section mainly, the contact patch won't be affected much
using a 10" wheel/rim vs a 12" wheel/rim

we use to go with the wider wheel/rim to calm down a tire
not wrinkle so much, sort of rides on the outer portions of the tire more too
usually can handle a lil' more psi too

Seems right to me, Budnicks.
The really fast guys using the "big" small tire drag radial pro, are using a 14" rim with a 315 tire. (Somewhere near 11" on the ground). I think it gives a better contact patch, with less "bow" in the tire with the amount of air pressure they want to run. I have some 315 dr pro's, but on 12" (dont make anywhere near enough power for 14s) and i want to a-b test them against my hoosier quick time pros that are on my 14s.

I run 4.30's in my 8-3/4 rear and use Hoosier 30 x 9 radial slicks. Course my 63 is a street car that I race in full street mode through the full exh. I drive the highway like this turning about 3000 rpm at 60 mph. But I like the 4.30's with a 30" tall tire as my car weighs 3700 lbs without me in it and has run 10.70's. I honestly think it may go faster with 4.10's as I shift around 6200 and trap about 6400. And my eng is a mild 493. It feels like it almost peaking at the traps so that why I think it may pick up a little dropping the gear a tad. But I would have no problem running 4.10's with a 28" tire or even 3.91's. Good luck what ever you decide. Ron

Thanks guys!
I did end up finding a US Gear 4.30 Pro gear at Drive Train Specialties. They had a couple left... I debated weather to get it or not since I'm going to go with the 31x10.5 tires... I decided to grab it while the getting was good. If I don't use it, then I'll just sell it.
Service was super good with them except they did bang me $45.00 to ship a 18lb package from Indiana to the Pennsylvania - Ohio boarder.

My 10.5Wx31 M/T's have been on 10" rims since day one. Last time out it went 1.261 60ft.

I run 10.5W's and 315's D.R.'s on 12" wheels. It definitely helps stretch the width.

Right no guys... Thanks!!

I'm going to go with the Mikey's 31x10.5's.
I'm jus going to have to use some spacers to get the clearance I need for now until I get new rims with the off set I need.
If I get new rims, I'm may still end up with 10" rims because the old school rims I want don't seem to come in 12".
