Hey Guys,

A rookie question here...
Considering the picture below, what is my next step in cam removal?
I’m taking a little break to remove the grille.
Thanks,
Kevin

Do you have the rocker arms, pushrods and lifters removed yet? If not you need to do that first. But if I were you with no more knowledge than you have I don't think you should be doing it.

Do you have the pushrods and lifters out? Is so then pull the timing chain(make sure on #1 TDC compression stroke), remove cam retainer plate and pull the cam out...

Rocker arms, pushrods, and lifters are removed. Number one cylinder is TDC on compression stroke.

I really appreciate the advice. It’s my first swap, so I figured a quick consultation with the veterans would boost my confidence

They're you go, you're on the home stretch now!

Thanks again! Bought a used engine with a Comp cans 292 solid roller. I’m hoping this 274 Comp cams solid roller will mellow it out. Hopefully get enough vacuum for power brakes

If you're not changing the cam bearings, remove and re-install very carefully. You don't want to damage the bearings.

One more question, does the oil pan gasket need replacing? When I removed the timing cover, it seems to have exposed the front of the oil pan gasket.

be sure to check the endplay on the new cam once installed. It should be good but i would check it while there. Also is there an offset
bushing in the cam dowel hole?

You are going to install a solid roller cam? Do you have all the hardware that goes with it?

The engine currently has a Comp cams solid roller. I’m just going 3 sizes milder in the same cam product line, the Extreme Energy series

I’ve got the degree wheel, and the pointer, and a adapter that fits a dial indicator into the #1 spark plug hole.
I think that’s what I need, but don’t be surprised if I’m back on the site bugging you guys for advice
