New hood

Ordered new lift off hood with scoop for a 1966 Coronet. How many hood pins should I use? Does anyone sell brackets to mount them or did you guys make them? Thanks Kris
 
Four and I’m sure someone will be along to answer the rest.
 
Year one, classic industries and a few others sell the hood pin kits. All you need are 4 pins.
 
Kinda depends on if it is race weight or street weight. Street weight should be fine with four pins. I would use more with a real liteweight hood, probably an extra in the center, front and rear.
 
Mine uses 4 aluminum pins. After 8 years its bent the hold down clips a bit so I replaced them. The aluminum pins are still perfect. The fronts are as far forward as possible. The front edge of your hood probably slants forward. A deep socket over the pin with a long extension will bend the sheet metal enough to get the pin 90 degrees to the hood surface. My front pins ended up being to short. Made extensions from 3/4" aluminum rod drilled and tapped for 1/2x20. The rears are simple 1/8" aluminum plates mounted to the rear fender bolts. the rear pins were to long so they were trimmed. The parts that were cut off were used with the sleeves to extend the front pins. Mount the pins. Then measure where they will come thru the hood. drill the holes. you may have to egg the holes a bit. The plate will cover.

Chrysler only used 4 pins on the A12 fibreglass lift off hood. But, it was a pretty sturdy piece. The repro rear A12 pin brackets might even bolt to your '66, because these cars were structurally similar under the hood to the '69's.
 
We sell these 66-67 Dodge Coronet hoods all the time for $350. I tell the customers that 4 will be fine on city streets but anything over 100mph and things start happening. Over 120 mph on the 66-67 Coronet and Belvederes, you better have one in the center across the front and make that center one 3 inches in front of the core support, or risk hood damage. I've seen it happen.
 
Mine is always over 145. Been 150. No issues ever.The new hood is carbon fiber. Thinner and lighter. Still will be 4 pin.

The 66-67 Dodge and Plymouth b bodies are shaped different than a 64 Plymouth B body and for some reason they have a problem. Could it be that they are designed like a brick?
 
My pins are through the thick area.

Arrived today can't wait to install. What is the best way to cut the air cleaner hole?

My advise for your air cleaner hole is to install a stud in your carb just long enough to touch your hood when it is in place over your pins. Then scribe to size from that centre point. I gave an extra 1/2”

My Dart AAR glass hood is a hinge type with inner structure for a latch. Lots of inner structure strength. I’m using 4 pins but I have it mounted on the hinges and it hinges down over the 4 pins. I’m happy with it and I modified the hinges to fit gas struts which are tucked behind the fender. The hinge-able hood was an additional 6 lbs for my application, no regrets going that route.
 
Pretty much how I did it. This little air saw worked great. A little bit of sanding and Iam pretty happy. Now the fun part hood pins lol
