I recently picked up a 66 Satellite with an original 383 4-speed so i’m trying to find out some information and history about this car. It has a 150 MPH speed-o-meter which i thought was odd. Could this have been a pursuit car?? How do i find out everything possible based on the SN on the door jamb??

IMO, the cluster has been changed, or at a minimum the speedometer. Pictures would help.

Welcome from Alabama, 66-67's are great.

You have a wealth of information and help right here at FBBO - but you're going
to have to post a lot more info, starting with pics:
:xscuseless:

Welcome, nice satellite. The 150 speedo was made for the 1967 GTX. So it was not yet invented to be factory installed in a 1966 car. Same with the 1967 only hood scoop on your car.

You can post you door jam (VIN) number here. It won’t tell much. Does your car have a tag underhood by the battery with codes in it? Size of a credit card screwed to the inner fender. That will tell much more.

Hi mike Im from Alaska also. Cordova . I live in Wa state now. I have a 1969 satellite and it was a 318 v8 car and speedo only goes up to 120 I think for that reason. I have a 440 now though

Welcome aboard from NJ. As mentioned, a picture is worth a thousand words! :D

66 VIN code for your car should begin with-

RP23G

RP is Satellite

23 is 2 door hardtop

G is 383 (all were four barrels in 1966)

...and just to nip it in the bud- there was an error in the 1966 factory manual regarding VIN codes for engine sizes.

welcome to FBBO from NorCal Sierra

I use to live in Anchorage, Eagle River & Palmer areas
in mid '80s, after college, before coming back to Calif.
I moved up there when my sister & BIL were stationed
at Elmendorf AFB

good to have you here
