So I couldn’t get an alignment because they said that I needed the lower control arm bushings and I did them and the cat runs a lot better but it’s a no sway bar car so on turns it floats and the steering feels soft.
What upgrades can I do that won’t change the feel as far as the smooth ride.
I have a 69 camaro with control arms and cool overs but it’s really stiff and I’m not looking for that feel.

I was thinking add front and rear sway bars and replace the stock gear box with a stock rebuilt one but add the quick ratio kit from pst to improve the ratio. I just added new cheap auto zone brand sach shocks and it’s smooth so i think I’ll keep those.
What do you guys think about that plan?
Looking for a ride with just a bit more of a firm straight away feel where I can feel confident driving with one hand on the wheel but don’t want to lose the travel

any ideas on what sway bars ?
Parts ?

Thanks

What T-bars are in it now? Big block or small block? AC and other accessories or not? These details matter.

Regardless of anything else, put the biggest sway bar on up front. Rear one helps too, but is optional since it does not sound like performance drivin car, so you could save your money here.

Thanks for the reply

the car is a 1970 satellite no ac, 383 with power steering, and added front disc. I believe these to be the stock torsion bars. I did put hemi torsion bars on my challenger abd it changed the ride so definitely plan to keep the stocks there now.

Any front sway bar you recommend ? no on the rear sway bar you think ?
how about the other things like the gear box and the ratio kit from pst?

Sway bar in the front helps and get a Firm Feel steering gearbox with a bit tighter setting than stock to get a bit more feel.

Whatever front sway bar your choose, look and see if you have sway bar brackets on the existing control arms and order appropriately. Yes, I would not waste my money on the rear bar for this type of build. The front bar is 95% of the improvement.

Sorry I don't have experience with PST fast ratio, but I would suggest that since you have replaced the ball joints also check the tie rod ends, etc. Lastly, when you get it aligned, to achieve what you described, have them dial in the most caster they can get.

What do you plan to do with your car? If you are looking for oem feel and function I would replace the bushings with stock oem rubber. I would also consider upgrading your torsion bars to 1" or larger. This will give a firm but not a harsh ride. What is your questions or concerns about our fast ratio pitman arm? I can any questions that you would have. Please feel free to PM with your questions.

Thanks

Is it originally a 383-2bbl? If it is they put 318 torsion bars in them. I don’t know why they did this on a BB engine because they handle bad. Putting in bigger t-bars helps a ton.

I did this on one with a 383-2bbl and AC and used 440-hemi bars and it was way better Ride and handling. Still without a sway bar.

It was a 383 2 barrel hmm interesting
Do the t bars have any effect on straight driving ? I was thinking t bars where more for travel no? I really think a more stable steering and quicker reaction when turning is what I’m looking for

thanks James. I was on your site yesterday and I’m thinking of upgrading to the fast ratio kit because I noticed the car feels slow when I’m driving with one arm almost too soft I’d like a more stable precise steering and quicker reaction when where I can drive it with one arm.

What do you mean by slow to responds in reference to the steering. Like there is play in the steering box or the number of turns or distance of the wheel when turning left to right. If there is play in the box that could be a factor. The fast ratio pitman and idler arm will make it/feel quicker or more responsive if that is what you are looking to achieve.

The fast ratio arms not only make the response quicker, it also significantly increases the steering effort. That's not a bad thing - it's not as stiff as a manual steering car, but I point it out because it's a night and day difference from what you may be expecting. I think you may like it. Firm Feel is my preferred vendor for Stage I, II, or III firmed up stock box. They also sell the fast ratio pitman and idler arms as does PST. The other route you can go is just put in a non-stock steering box that feels quicker AND gets rid of the on center slop the improved stock type boxes have. The preferred one for our mopars is a Borgeson steering box with the Bergman coupler that fits the Borgeson so you don't need to cut your steering column.

Here's the coupler to work with the Borgeson box.
