A caution for people with high powered weed eaters:

Hey when you urethaned it into position did you put it in the corners only or all the way around? Curious as I don't wanna "glue" the hell outta my rear window in my Roadrunner but I want it to stay in. I have heard horror stories of redone rear windows not seated fly out when the windows are done in the car. Not sure if I should worry, but just using the butyl tape only scares me as I drive the piss outta my cars and want it to stay in place.

Yeah, Greg. You don't waste any time. Must be the Carpenter in you. Funny thing my Father in Law is in his 70's never slows down. He is a Carpenter. His name is Greg too.

Learned that lesson a few years ago when I blew out my kitchen window the same way!

Wow, that really sucks. Glad there wasn’t any paint damaged. That’s a gorgeous car!

Hell your Lucky it was just the glass! It could of hir paint or worse body line and dent car and mess up paint!!!

I know what you won’t do again... bad luck

Learned that lesson when I was younger working for my buddies landscape company. A fellow worker took out a huge window of a shop in a strip mall. The tiniest rock flung at high speed into tempered glass window can wreak havoc....

Way to be badass and jump right in to get that replaced

Sounds like you might benefit from these or something like them

I had couple sets and loved them; wore out both over a decade, held up fairly well; could have more durable though

You can comfortably listen to music or whatever you’re into, and save what’s left your hearing while doing stuff like that

one down side; you can’t hear anything else at all...

Such as, but not limited to, your significant other trying to get your attention for quite some time

and you won’t notice your phone buzzing with all that going on either

Some would call those “features” and not “bugs”...to each their own

next set will have Bluetooth and a mic to take calls etc, but want one that also has cord...

for when/if the Bluetooth craps out or is being finicky; haven’t found one I like that has both

this one doesn’t have mic or Bluetooth, so maybe look around, if you like the mic idea:

I think I heard you swearing over here in Illinois! WoW! Sorry to hear about your Boo-Boo.
And I thought that kind of **** only happened to me. So thank you for all of the relevant facts
about the actual glass thicknesses. Did you end up using the 3/8" or the 5/16"? and if you
used the 3/8", how did the moldings go back on? Did you calk the window from the inside
or the outside after placing the window? 3M makes the best products! Beautiful Car! First
picture you posted looked like the 10,000 watt stereo system tried to send your rear window
into orbit!

Yep my friend last week blew out his truck back window with his weed eater.

The ribbon/tape I used was the thicker 3/8".
I ran a bead of the urethane on the inside in 2001 to seal the gaps. The window channel had some metal replacement and the surface wasn't as straight as stock. The butyl ribbon stuck to painted metal and followed the shape of it, resulting in a few spots where the glass didn't touch the butyl. The same condition was there again now, mostly at the lower right corner and a bit at the middle lower section. A sharp and clean angled blade can cut through the butyl and urethane so if I ever need to remove this window, (I cannot see why I would) The blade would be adequate.
AS far as I recall, the factory used the butyl tape and nothing else. I have a few things to do the first part of the day but should be out there later to finish up.

Sorry to see that and know the feeling. My Wife did that to our new 2500 Ram back in '03 when we bought it.. Took out 1 pane in the rear slide window. Turned into a disaster real quick.. Local glass company came to put a new rear window in.. The guy was smoking in our new truck that had less than 2,000 miles on it. Got cigarette ashes all over the inside. Gave it back to us and needed the back of the cab repainted as when they cut the old one out they cut the paint to bare metal and got urethane on the light grey headliner.. Returned the truck to us with all that damage and left shattered glass in our car seat for our 2 year old... I flipped. I called the manager out there and showed ALL the damage. Then while looking the new rear window had a blem wave/line through the glass that when you looked at it it actually divided/distorted your face and elongated it to one side.. He says well it is JUST a truck... Yeah it's just a Truck Our new truck! I unloaded... I slammed my door, left and told him I was suing him and called my insurance to not pay the bill. Well it got WORSE before it got better. He called said a shop of my choice can repaint the cab, a detailer will clean the entire interior and they will put ANOTHER brand new rear slide window in but they needed a week to get it all lined up... IN the mean time heavy rains pummeled us. Apparently when I slammed my door with all the windows up I blew seal from the back glass with all the pressure as it was not cured yet.. So the back foot wells and carpet and one seat got soaked the way it was parked... They also had paid to remove all the seats and carpet and dry everything out. When it was all said an done it was $1200 for the rear glass plus another $1200 for the other rear glass and $1,300 to clean the interior, pull the interior out and dry it and repaint the cab... It was ridiculous... Glad to see yours went smoother!! Other than why can't they make the glass the same thickness...

I think the worst damage you can do on your ride is self inflicted. Case in point is the huge dent on my tailgate. I backed into a pepper tree. GRRRRRR! Greg, after this, a blue tooth head set is your friend.

Have you submitted an insurance claim? Don't know who you use or what your deductible is, but this is probably a comp claim and shouldn't increase your premium. You should submit it even though it was your fault. They will pay for the materials and maybe even for your labor. This is what insurance is for.

That sucks, the rock hitting the window...

but, you got her done quick

I blew out a sliding glass door, mowing once
that was not fun either...
