Secret to removing my 440 oil filter

Take it off and continue to wipe the K member for what seems liKe forever . I laugh every time I do it and ask horizontal as well . .

I use the long 1515 filter and just move it to the k member hole and down.
I have headers and power steering, seems to come right out fine.
Like the rest of you I do poke a hole in the end and drain it 1st.

If possible, drain the oil when engine is hot, change the filter when oil is cold.....

OK, Disregard post #18 as pictured below.

It does not fit. At least it doesn't on a '69 Road Runner with a 383.
I did have success by punching a hole in the bottom (lowest part) of the filter and let it drain.
Sorry if I sent anyone down the yellow brick road.

OK, so I learned some great ideas about stopping the mess, but not a single one of you really said how you get it out of that friggin place. My Charger has power steering and A/C... the only way I can ever get the filter out of there is to loosen up the front sway bar and center brace. It gives me just enough room to get even the biggest filter out of there. Sadly, I had to learn that on my own. No points for you guys.

I've had a Coronet with a 440, AC, and power steering and never an issue.

70RR 440 w P/S & 69 Charger 440 w P/S & A/C: both (Wix) filters come out forward then tip down between rad and K member. Close quarters, yes, lower rad hose snuggles up to filter, but doable. No sway bar issues with either. Use newspaper (or equivalent) wrap around filter to keep K member dry.

I have to unscrew the filter and rest it on the sway bar. I then reach in from the top and turn the fan (no shroud) until I can weasel it out.

On both my big block B-bodies, the only way I can get the WIX filters out is to loosen the front sway bar mounts to gain enough room. I was watching this thread hoping someone had a better idea as well....
