Over boring any block just to fit some 50 year old piston is MADNESS!
I get this ALL the time at the 'old machine shop', customers wanting standard bore blocks taken 'out to the MAX'.

I say again MADNESS, 50 years of cylinder wall hardening and seasoning, bored away in an instant!!!

Just to get a thinwall 'FORD' lookalike crap engine...

A 426 block should be treated with REVERANCE and serenity that its history deserves...

If I am understanding you correctly, you are saying that Chrysler bored the 361 blocks to get 383, and did same to 413 to get 426? This is not the case. These blocks were all separate, different castings, as denoted by different casting numbers. This was done to retain adequate cylinder wall thickness.
 
I'm just finishing up on my 426 .040 over. The right pistons will cost you $925 - $950, spend the money! As my machine shop said don't ever go with used piston or rods if you plan on having the engine for any length of time, it'll be a small amount of money compared to the rest of the build.

I have a lead on some old vintage brand new forged factory ones that have been never used.

My 426-S was built with Ross Racing pistons, 0.20 over..also balanced /blueprinted.

There are two castings that have good documentation of being used for both 413 and 426. I’ve seen both as original 426’s. I personally don’t think they were the preferred 426 blocks though. Pretty sure the dedicated blocks are better suited.

Find a good machine shop that can press in a bronze bushing into the rod, then hone to the right clearance for your pins.

I think I have a set of early Stage rods that would go very nice for a Clone Maxie build too..... putting together a real 426 wedge is only a challenge because of the pistons (cost for custom), and the maxie heads, but it would be very cool to build something vintage and not compromise by butchering it into a 440 or some such. (just my 2 cents). Crossrams are out there, heck i even have a vintage NASCAR max port single carb manifold....
Do you have those max stage wedge rods? If you do still how much would you want for them?
 
Just came up with a set of forged .030 over 426 pistons. Look to be 11:1. PM me if interested. Used but in good shape.
