Before Sears Point opened up our go to track was Fremont. Always made a stop into the parking lot of Vic Hubbard speed shop. One time we hit theFriday drags and ended up sleeping in my car in their parking lot. Got up, ran and got some breakfast hit Vic Hubbards for parts then back to Fremont for that Saturday drags.

I'm with Budnicks. It was ALWAYS the roots supercharger. Literally drooled over those things.

BIG Halibrand fan also. My A12 wears set of Halibrand five spokes. Most people think that they are some kind of Torque-Thrust or related, but occasionally someone will notice that the center caps are different and read "Halibrand Engineering"...

There was one on each quarter window when I bought it in 1991. Of course they're still there!

I bought my Hooker headers for $109.99 at the Baseline Super Shops in San Bernardino about a mile from my apartment. It was like touring a museum of muscle majesty!

Rumor has it the chain is coming back with a few stores scattered around.

Gearheads from my area near London, Ontario used to go to Gratiot Auto supply in Detroit. I think it was out near 9 Mile Road. Later on, there was Ramcharger's, and now Mancini's. I still have a 1971 Gratiot "specials" catalogue. The prices in it are hilarious now.

I still have all my receipts from purchases made at Super Shops and a couple of others back in 1987-88.

Might be worth a chuckle to dig them out and post 'em up. :)

We had Ramchargers! I still remember the first new 340 cam I bought from them. As a matter of fact I still have it! 440'
My buddy still has a Ramchargers fiberglass front end on his '70 Cuda - complete with six pak scoop.

Not a speed shop, but I remember going into our local Chrysler dealership and buying NOS chrome exhaust tips for my '70 GTX in '81 or '82 at the parts counter.

Heck: I was saving my paycheques just to buy valvecovers, intakes and headers. It was a good time to be alive though I remember just walking the aisles of the local Cal Van dreaming of those unobtainable $100 parts.

Yes it was good time! I remember spending all my money on a Hays clutch. Top Ramen and BEER beer for a couple of weeks. I couldn't afford a new battery but who needs a good battery when you have a 4 speed. LOL

I saw this in a field in southern Oregon a few years ago.

yeah, off hwy97 just out of KFalls. I posted on it several years ago and when I drove by heading south it was gone

I mentioned Gratiot Auto Supply in Detroit in a previous post. The guys that I knew that bought there always took US $ with them to pay cash, and parked their cars away from the store. The rumour was that if Gratiot employees suspected we were Canadians, they would try to get our licence plate # and report our purchases to Canadian border inspection. Some of the guys would stash their buys in their car and not report their purchases at the border to avoid duties and taxes. The rumour then continued that an identified car would be stopped at border inspection and searched. If undeclared Speed Shop purchases were found, the smuggler would be fined and the goods would be confiscated and returned to Gratiot for resale. I don't know for sure whether this was true, but I knew guys that had stuff taken away at the border.
