68 Super Bee project

Hahaha it’s hard to describe the sound. But it’s way louder in 1-2-3 and soon as I go into 4th it’s quiet. I called brewers and he said sounds like main bearings. I would love to not have to pull the trans so if anybody has another suggestion I’m open hahaha

I believe I found the source of my noise. Major pitting on the inside race of the rear main bearing. Everything else looked good. But went ahead and ordered a whole rebuild kit as well as new counter shaft while I’m here.

Trans is back in and shifting like a dream! Nice and quiet to. Time to adjust my rear bumper and get the tips and corner lights on.

The input bearing will make noise all the time if its bad

Your car looks awesome! It looks like you're almost finished with it.

Got my marker lights in a few days ago and got them installed. I’m not 100%happy with them and but they’re ok. I’d recommend getting nos instead. I posted some pics of how they put the lenses in the wrong housings. It’s not big deal but simple change they could make and be more correct. Also the metal is cheap and not well built at all compared to the factory. But as I said I’m made em work and they’ll do for now. The foam gaskets they come with are way to thick. I sliced them in half and they fit much better. Also cleaned up my visors, rear view mirror and seat belt clips and got all that in. Shooting now for package tray and door panels!

Time for my monthly update haha. I’ve been working a ton lately and haven’t been posting much at all. But I have been chipping away at the Bee. I got my shift knob finished up. Turned it out of a piece of walnut and stamped out the shift pattern. I think it looks good, I want to try and shine it up a little more but other than that I’m happy with it. Got my tips on and man I’m so happy with the way they look. Stainless from accurate and they really set the car off, not to mention it sounds good! Also got my door panels in and I’m currently waiting on new door pad bases, crank arms and levers to finish them off. Ordered my seat covers over a month ago and from what I hear it’s gonna be a while. Other than that I’ve just been doing some tuning playing around with timing and carb adjustments. The car is running awesome!

I’ll do my best to describe my process. I should have done a better job a taking pics while doing it but didn’t. Anyway turned the ball, drilled hole for insert and placed the ball straight up. Masking taped the top and laid out my pattern with a pencil. Took a chisel and flat head screw driver slightly dulled the tip and carefully stamped out my pattern till it was consistent lightly tapping with a hammer it doesn’t take much. Took some time and a helping hand from my dad. Once the pattern was stamped I used a stamp kit from harbor freight to do the numbers. The sizing is perfect to me. Painted the area with black spray paint then sanded the ball leaving the paint inside the numbers and pattern. Cleaned it up and oiled it down with some tung oil. We also turned a couple extras to practice on. If anybody is interested in one let me know. My dad is a wood turner and we had fun doing em.

Pretty cool the way you made the shifter ball, looks great.

Very, very, cool ride, but have 1 question, aren’t the wheels supposed to be body color when it has the bottle caps, steels and bottle caps I put on all my cars, love the look
