Anyone know what this is out of? I'd ask everyone to look at the mounting system and the rod that runs from the ignition "key" down midway the column to a spot where I assume a switch would go (if you rotate the key the rod moves and it does not feel like there is a switch in there).

The switch mounts to the column and is clearly missing. The short, bent part of the rod inserts into the switch. If I had to fathom a guess, it would be late 70's through mid 80's. I had a similar column in an 82 Mirada.

Thanks and I recognized that a switch goes onto the column and that the rod goes into it, this is why I am trying to figure out what it is out of, I am going to try to use it in a 71 Charger.

The rod can be removed by removing the steering wheel and ignition switch. I see no reason why you can't use it in your Charger build. You may have to fabricate a mount, as they are different.

By the Cruise control switch, is not newer than 72, so is a 70/72 period.

No rubber coupler on shaft also confirms that.

Dash bracket and firewall plate are not B body, so, pointing out from a 70/72 Monaco/Polara

What does have those cars down the column to get a rod like that? Dunno

The rod thats down the column is for the actual switch that is actuated by the key. Dodge used gm uppers on there tilt columns. Those are gm parts. I think it telescopes and tilts, or just tilts....based on best guess, it is this same style column. Mounting bracket looks the same. If you look at the last picture you will see that slight curve to the side with the tilt mechanism. The white swtich is what is supposed to be mounted to the side..actually kinda cool design if you ask me

Maybe a Dodge Van? I replaced an ignition switch on a van that was the same set up. That was many many years ago.

I have determined that this column is out of a 73 or newer Dodge Monaco (although I think they used the same one in several models). I appreciate all of the responses, it was helpful.

I am not sure about this column but some of them were tilt and telescopic, I have to play with this one. The other challenge will be finding an ignition switch plug/connector, but one thing at a time... lol

Switch should be easy. As on my d350 i ran a gm one out of a wrecking yard (although i will admit 84 vs 73 could be diffrent) and with a huge gm aftermarket shouldn't be super difficult to find. Plug? Maybe. Functions sould all be the same wires colors not. Just get a plug that fits and repin the other end to what your wiring needs. In my humble opinion.

I found a GM pigtail on ebay for like $18 so I ordered it and well will see if it fits.

Well the coupler is 72 and older but maybe early 73 build with left over 72 parts

That's why I said is 70/72 but dunno if this GM made steering column are diff on the assembly and they don't get the rubber coupler like 73 and lates should get.

And, well, the Cruise Control stalk on 73 and lates is like this

while up to 72 are like this

Note how the column on C bodies board get's the rubber coupler assembly used on 73 B bodies. I know C bodies got this coupler not just on 73 ( but B bodies took them from C bodies just for that year, 74s are diff ) but definitelly a non coupler assembly will be earlier than 73

Unless the coupler was a just Chrysler deal for all years and Plymouth/Dodges C bodies just starting at certain year.

I have a similar column out of a 72 imperial, but with tilt/tele. I had the same idea to use it in a 72 satellite. The first issue is that the lugs that mount the column to the bracket are on top instead of on the bottom. The other challenge is the ignition switch mounted on the column interfering with the bracket. If you do go for it I hope you'll start a thread to show how you get it to work.

I appreciate the information. The guy I got this column from said that he was told it was telescopic as well but looking at it I don't think it is, but that would be nice.

I cannot say for certain but I am pretty sure I can make it work, whether it will be acceptable is another issue. There are definitely some challenges, I have to get rid of the column shift, the column mounted ignition switch might pose a problem but we will see when we get there.

Once I get to this car in earnest I will start a build thread.

Another interesting issue is that this steering wheel was available on 71 Chargers with tilt column (S62 option)

it was an option not just for 71s but also 72s. BUT I guess with the right dash and firewall brackets, correct column lenght... if some of these are diff between C and B bodies of course.

Note these columns don't have the shifter indicator... because they are on cluster, however 71/72 B bodies got the shifter indicator on column still on Tilt Columns.

the tilt AND telescopic column was just on Chryslers/Imperials... Dodges and Plymouths were just Tilt
