I am cannot for the life of me find a replacement bumper filler piece for my 73 ROADRUNNER. all of mine need them. I have seen at a car show where some one tucked the bumper closer to the body filling the gap. It was on a car that was very well done, with lots of small body mods that made it look amazing. I was not able to talk to the owner, to ask how he pulled the rear bumper in to fill the gap. any of you guys know?? pics maybe some instructions?

Find 71-72 brackets for the rears, or cut a section out of your originals and weld back up. For the front slot the mounting holes 1-1/2" to 2". I went 2" on mine.

You will also need to modify the front upper support brackets as they will be too long after tucking the bumper in.

OP didn't say what he had.

Charger is relatively easy as above.

Plymouth not so much.

Plymouth rear filler is available and nice but kinda pricey.

Not all of the Charger fillers are available.

avatar shows an SE Charger at least LOL

front just have the solution posted above.

rear got another solution aside get the 71/72 brackets... and also more radical:

( this link doesn't work for me anymore since hotrod doesn't allow to open their links in Europe, but I know what it is about because I read it when I was in Venezuela yet )

Avatar looks like a Plymouth to me.

Sorry guys, I forgot to say what what model I'm looking for information on. I have 3, 73 Roadrunners. I am looking to tuck in the rear bumper closer to the body to fill in the huge gap.

I have the same issue with my 74 road runner, I was planning on just making the end pieces out of fiberglass and the long center piece out of “L” channel. That is real far off as I’m currently replacing the fire wall. If you have three it might be worth your time and money to learn how to make a nice mold and produce some fiberglass pieces. Should be a video on YouTube to give you an idea how to do it. Nice looking car by the way.

I went with earlier bumpers and lots of people don’t realize that it’s a 74 until they look at the quarter glass. I removed all the badges as well to smooth things out. :luvplace:

We have a member that tucked his 73/74 Plymouth bumper, but because the bumper is wider than the body, he also sectioned and re-chromed (or painted I forget) the bumper.

If you just "shorten" the mounts (they are at an angle, so it's not just a section and re-weld), the top will be tucked, but the sides will stick out and also interfere with the bottom of the quarter not to mention the valance.

My center filler piece was salvageable but I paid $200 IIRC for the side pieces.

They are not exactly like the originals (metal backing is different) but they fit well and look good.

BTW, the center filler has cross section that looks like weatherstripping (h) and an embedded steel flat bar that holds the shape and helps clip and secure it to the bumper.

I imagine that would be "interesting" to try to build a mold for.
(My wife makes molds for polymer and resin dolls)

IIRC there is a cheaper center piece available but it lacks the embedded metal bar and does not stay in position well.

I want to say Detroit Muscle Tech made my end fillers.

They are a great group and highly reputable. That somewhat lessens the price shock.

You can make one out of plexiglass. I made one in the 90s for my old car and it looked really nice. Just paint the underneath whatever color you want. (the center piece).
