Do you dread family gatherings?

You I like!!!

Holy thread resurrection Batman!
How true that statement is. We still are the venue for most holiday gatherings, with my kids now doing most of the food prep.
At any function, there can be up to 15- 20 vehicles here, watching them all try to park so not to get blocked in is hilarious. Mrs Wacko still oversees the indoor cooking while my 3 adult boys and i handle the grilling, deep frying, smoking, outdoor cooking and garage frig supervision.
Grandkids seem to be popping up more each year......:D

Get-togethers can be bittersweet at times for me...these days it's mostly my wife's family(which I love dearly)as most of mine is gone. They are wonderful people that have never treated me like anything other than one of their own, but they're a little more let's say 'reserved' than my family growing up. We had Armenians, Irish Okies, Germans..but all 100% American. Those old-timers...bringing a whole lamb to roast on a giant spit for hours. A deer or a pig in a bbq pit, liquor brought back from someone's recent rip to 'the old country', huge bonfires...I can still smell the Oak wood burning. The people, the food, the stories...such beautiful chaos.
I try to stay focused on the 'now', WE are the parents and on our way (hopefully) to old-timer status..cherish it. It slips away in the blink of an eye..

Thanks for sharing!! I had the same times with my wife's family, more laid back than my family, but, great people who learned to love me as time went by. I missed them all very much. It's now my wife, daughter and my brother. Life is short, enjoy it while you can.

yes I do

I saw him live, he was a great comedian, not rate G, crass as hell
had impeccable timing, great delivery
& great atypical asshole NY/NJ type character
the women especially (& other SF :gay: crowd) in the crowd
were laughing the hardest or most too

he doesn't leave anyone out of it
equally offensive to all

that's why he was so liked
Comedy today sucks ***

A lot of us are showing our vintage and very similar thoughts I’ve had. My mother was a maniac about the holidays and birthdays and so many priceless memories. Now? They’re all gone, mom, dad, my uncles and aunts and old family friends on both sides of the family. We kept up the holiday cheer for years hoping to produce similar memories for our kids; fortunately they have good memories of their grandma and grandpa before they passed, now in their 30’s. BUT, all of those great gatherings are in the past and no rewinding the tape. The photos and videotapes are there and the memories are priceless. In any case, hope there are enough young-uns still producing great holiday memories for their offspring.

To answer the original question, yes. I love being with my wife and kids but as the family has grown there are some relatives I have a really hard time dealing with. They need one of these.
