Hi Guys,
I just stumbled across some info that you're probably all aware of but I was not. Apparently the Chrome Road Wheels were n/a on 1968 & 69 Chargers with the 426. Any idea why this was?
Appreciate any and all input.
Cheers, Greg

15 x 6 wheels only on Hemi 1968-1969. The 14” wheels returned for 1970 hemi cars.

Mopar road wheels are 14x5.5 until early 70’s they could be had in 14x6. Never had them in 15”

Ford had 15" Magnum 500's on some of their cars. Boss 429 comes to mind.

You could briefly get the 15 X 6 cast aluminium wheel on a car with 426 in 1969, but they were recalled shortly after release. Replaced with steel wheel.

I have always wondered....why are they called road wheels?

The 15” wheel on the 68-69 hemi cars were for additional road clearance.

old advert. below
the 68's were called Roadweheels & only 14" for some reason

the later versions with the trim ring, covering a painted outer rim
were the more generic named 'Magnum 500's'

this was the wheel options for Dodge/Ply/Chry others in 72 IIRC

AMC used the Magnum 500 as well, you could order them on the Javelin.

However, the C body cars could get 15 in chrome road wheels, I had them on a 68 New Yorker back in 1975, and they were there when new.

Can you show us what a 1968 Chrysler 15” road wheel looks like?

15” chrome road wheels for C-bodies started in 1970. They didn’t look like Magnum 500’s they look like these.

no, mine were identical to the 14's, I knew the difference. and the elderly original owner had the window sticker showing 15 inch chrome road wheels ordered. It was an original 440 TNT four speed New Yorker, with the 9 1/4 rear, disc brakes. That was a great car.

I agree The above styled wheels came out in 69, I am referring to pre 69.

On a Hemi car wheel choices were as follows

14" steel wheels ONLY in 1966 with a couple options for hubcaps depending on model
14" again only in 1967 , could be same as 66 ,,,, but now avail with 14" chrome magnums as options

1968 and 1969 were 15" steel wheels only with a couple different hubcaps choices, The recall wheel was an option VERY EARLY 1969 only. By mid Sept SBD date the recall wheel was no longer avail option

1970 and 1971 they could be had with either 14 or 15" , EXCEPT E bodies and 71 B bodies were 15" only
14s were pretty much any wheel / hubcap choices
if ordered with 15s it was either rallyes or steel wheels with the small beenie hubcap in both years

Unless you have pictures & copy of the window sticker, I'm going to say it didn't exist. That owner sounds like the same guy who told me that my 1969 Road Runner would have come with a pistol grip shifter.

No I am not here to prove anything to anyone here, as I couldn't care less if anyone believes me or not. I don't have any Interest in pissing matches, and I doubt many members here were even alive in 1967, let alone old enough to drive these cars when they were new. the wheel was an exact copy of the 15x6 steel wheel available on all three of my 67-68 models, only they were road wheels. rare yes, hardly ordered, yes. did they exist , yes. Did anyone consider the possibility that the dealers had wheels from outside vendors for sale in their parts dept to upcharge upon delivery? I did sell my only original set like them in 1984 to a friend that still has them on his car,,,It never fails to amaze me that people believe that, unless it is written, it did not happen with Chrysler.

Now we're getting somewhere. Dealer installed is completely different from what was actually offered by the factory. Dealer installed items would also not be listed on the manufacturer's Monroney sticker.
