Is it just me, or can I hear banjo's playing ????

Someone’s idea of cool has gone straight down the tube!Of course nothing really lost it’s a Ford:lol:

Yo, "designer" of that monstrosity...
I think I know how this happened:
drunk as a skunk.gif

Come on guys !!!!
Someone took multiple things no one would want and made something out of them!
Granted I believe no one wants them still but.....
It's a car someone modified took a bunch of trash and made something!
If I had 10 kids and wanted a rat rod we all could ride in to shows this is perfect!
Would I drive it ! Yes! Would I own it ! Sure why not! Would I pay money for it! NOoooooo.

Got to keep an open mind this is what some kids like can't write them off . Better then the slammed honda's!

I never understood the rat-rod craze. As bad as the comfort level is in our old iron, 2 miles of driving in one of those things must feel like 200.

Actually with the air ride it's quite nice !
Rat rods are different there easy to build not a high stress car if it rains oh well if a shopping cart hits it oh well . If you scratch it dropping motor in doesn't matter.

I'm building my 38 cadillac right now it's not quite a rat rod but not a hot rod , it's whatever I say it is I guess . Rat rod sites say I can't stay hot rod sites say same thing!
Sad really you would think people would support anything car related!
Yeah some stuff is off the wall crazy but some turns out cool .

Got a guy local joined my local mopar club he built a old 40-50 fire truck on a newer dodge frame.
It was rat rodded well he was kinda bashed a bit for it and set aside really .
Needless to say he never came back to the club .

I thought the thing was amazing he took a otherwise pile of junk and gave it new life !
I ran into him some time later he sold it and decided to get out of hobby !

I think the original rat rods were a kickback against the perfect-paint-billet -everything-mega-dollar car, by guys that couldnt, or didnt want to, spend that time, money, and effort. It was just "put together what you have and enjoy it". Great idea, i can relate.
But the movement degenerated into who could build the rustiest, most outrageous junk possible, no matter how much work it took. The aformentioned van is an example. A crapload of work, to get a crapload of a car.
I can easily understand pushback against $30k paintjobs, etc. and driving and enjoying a car that isnt "show-worthy"....
but why build crap like this?

And then sell it for big money, for a car half done.

My thinking about rat rods..... If your going to build one, and have the vision and imagination to build a cool one, then build it so it CAN be driven. Build in some reliability & safety. It's all about appearance & things can be made to appear old and rusty but are in fact strong and reliable. Now, I like the idea about the many window bus body as a Rat Rod, but the execution of this one was way off.

I totally agree. I love the ratrods but they have to be totally thought out. A well put together, artistic ratrod is a beautiful ride. Some people just don't have a clue and end up building a pile of crap.

Last weekend, I tried to buy a vintage generator that had a cool aluminum cover over the small Wisconsin two cylinder. Would have made a cool rat rod air cleaner, but not for the price it brought.
