Started off well Saturday. Car ran well. Weather was still weak. Barometer at 28.6 and a 8-10 mph headwind. 60fts still good 1.252. Car ran 9.10. 1st rd the throttle cable comes off before the burnout. Day 1 is done. The ball stud stripped and tilted rearward. Cause, cable adjustment was set with the pedal not all the way on the floor when the carbs were at WOT. My mistake. Had a spare stud. Made a test hit later Saturday, 9.12 all is good. Sundays weather is even worse. still headwind, low barometer and its hotter. Qualify #1 with a .006 R/T giving me run a bye in rd #1. .021RT/1.28/9.19 track is starting to get slippery. First time in 11 passes 60 ft hasn't been 1.25. Rd#2 I get the winner of a race between my 2 friends that came with me. My buddy Dave straps a better .024 to my less than stellar .044. I get out of the groove and the chase is on. Dave thinks I cant get there and lifts. His mistake as I take the stripe by .006. Rd#3 I get a really nice A/S 67 427 Corvette. My .028 is just slightly better than his .034. Track is continuing to get looser. I catch him and tighten the stripe up to .015. 4th rd I get a Volare stocker. He leaves with a red light. Cool I'm going to the semis with 3 cars left. Ah but on the 1/2 shift there is a loud bang. Motor goes on the limiter. No forward gears. Coast off the track. It has reverse only. My bet is it broke the input clutch hub. Find out this week.

May I ask which track you were running at?
Cool you went some rounds before it broke. Very nice looking car too. Love that body style.

Sounds like my luck back in the day . I had to spot the eventual world champion ''that year'' of the ahra stock/superstock class , caught him in second gear , shifted to 3rd and trans started slipping he passed me back and won the whole deal .
Some of you may remember his name , Allen Patterson .

such is racing

goes good then sometimes, it takes it all away

hopefully not too expensive of a fix
good luck next time

Found the culprit. Stock 1965 front planet. Time to upgrade.

Am I correct remembering that you've run the stock planetary at Doug-speed for quite awhile?

Yes, stock carrier. At least 300-350 passes.

One thing I’m learning slowly that I’m sure you already understand, Doug, is to look at these things as an opportunity to improve the car. Good luck with the rebuild.

Billet carrier is on the way. Pulling the oil pan today. Needs a little bump work from the wheel stand incident. New tires are here. And going to lower the ladder bars another hole and see what happens. We'll see next weekend.
