Feliz Cinco de mayo - happy may the fifth

Nope.

I'd do it all again tomorrow.

I got me a good un.

Well, drinking to forget doesn't really work because you end up sober at some point.....

Asked a Mexican buddy if he was going to celebrate Cinco de Mayo. He said no sir we celebrate March 6th the day Davey Crockett died at the Alamo. True story.

Well ,we all have our reasons . Mine is it's my birthday....

I'm doing fake-o de Mayo. No booze, just mix. Still tastes good....and the doc doesn't yell at me (and my heart stays in sinus rhythm!)

Thanks for the reminder. I KNEW there was a reason I had to have a drink today. Now... what about tomorrow ?

We ate at a "real" Mexican restaurant last night.

I had this-

It was delicious!

GF Gluten Free? I want Gluten! Best Mexican Restaurant in Lakeland is Tapatios.
They have Mariachis too.

Being this the most notorious Mexican celebration in the US let me say this, NO!!! we do not celebrate our independence from Spain that day is September 16, today, we celebrate the commemoration of the battle of Puebla, we win the battle, lost the war, the french impose us an emperor and we sent him back dead in a small coffin along with his crazy wife, those who have been in Mexico city may remember our most famous avenue, paseo de la reforma, this avenue is a legacy from this period was ordered by Carlota of Hasburg to see his husband leave from the castle of chapultepec during the empire.

Mexico is fantastic. Celebrate your great victory!

Real Mexican food is dining in with a Mexican family! I've had a couple of room mates in years past and their mom's cooking was nothing like I've ever had and it was delicious! Yeah, there's good food from the restaurants but imo, there's no comparison to home cooking vs a restaurant....

I have a very old friend (1988) who is number 3 of a seven brother Mexican family whose parents are straight from Mexico.
I've had the pleasure of being invited to dine with them a few times.

The first time went something like this-

We all sat around a table with several pots and pans containing meat and vegetables, and were each given a stack of tortillas but no utensils.

I learned that you used the tortillas to reach into the pot and grab the chunk of food you wanted, keeping your grimy mitts off the food.
(very important since most of us had spent the day working on Mopars)

My Spanish is extremely limited (I can ask for a beer and the men's bathroom), and most of their English was limited as well, but I felt extremely welcome and honored to be their guest.

After dinner we all sat around the outdoor picnic table and had warm (not hot) strong coffee with heavy cream.

Several members were polishing off the rest of the pig that had been cooking in a pit for the better part of the day.
They asked me if I wanted to try the heart. I did. I don't think I will do that again, but a few of them seemed to really enjoy it.
They really didn't let anything go to waste.

Do you Gringos realize that we have more things in common that you think right, especially in the border states, names, food, county's with Spanish names, even you have a new Mexico, not to mention how many of you have a spouse from Mexico, we as neighbors should embrace our differences but also the vast amount of things that we share and enjoy, cheers to all of you cabrones !!! :drinks::thumbsup::luvplace:
