Do you Gringos realize that we have more things in common that you think right, especially in the border states, names, food, county's with Spanish names, even you have a new Mexico, not to mention how many of you have spouse from Mexico, we as neighbors should embrace our differences but also the vast amount of things that we share and enjoy cheers to all of you cabrones !!! :drinks::thumbsup::luvplace:

The only reason Cinco de Mayo is a thing in the US is because of a marketing campaign by Corona Beer about 30 or so years ago. This is also the source of the mistaken idea of Mexican independence occurring on that date, as pointed out earlier. But, yeah, it was all about beer sales in the US.

Cinco de Mayo celebrates the first Battle of Puebla where the Mexican army defeated the French during the U.S. Civil War on May 5, 1862. The battle was fought in Puebla, Mexico. Once the French retreated, a celebration ensued and Cinco de Mayo was born. The day has been commercialized through the years as an American holiday with liquor companies advertising the celebration.
