Back in the 60's I watched Juan Marichal pitch and Mays play center field at Candlestick Park (don't follow MLB any longer).

good dude, great player
way back when MLB was a great game to watch

not so much now,
bunch of kneeling bitchy whinny spoiled millionaires

About 60 years ago I was in Sonora with my family. It was a small, Central-California, mountain town with very little development. I don't know what day it was, but I could look it up. My dad stayed in the car and listened to the Giants game. It was the day that Willie Mays hit four home runs. At the end of the game, Willie was in the on-deck circle, and the batter before grounded out to end the game. The hometown crowd booed their player that threw the batter out, because they wanted Willie to have one more chance.

I miss the baseball of the Seventies. I was a hardcore Oakland A's fanatic then. In junior high, I could rattle off stats of everyone on the team. I followed them and the LA Dodgers all the way to the 1994-95 strike. After that, MLB was dead to me, and I never returned to it in any fashion. But jeez, the '70s was such an intense era for baseball! Very comparable to the 40s and 50s, at least IMO, anyway.

And Willie Mays was...Willie Mays! Every kid I knew then wanted to be him!
