Low compression RV engine. Auto and 2.90 rear gear.
67 Belvedere street car.
Has an unknown aftermarket cam in it now. Has an awesome lope!
But smells gas'y no matter what I do to stop it.
Vacuum, floats, timing. Speaking of vacuum. It only has 7lbs.
I think the cam is completely wrong for this engine. I've had this engine for 20 years and it's very reliable.

The larger Summit cam would help.
Or a Whiplash cam if you like the choppy idle.
But it is a 440 so it's going to have an exhaust smell no matter what.

Sounds like the lobe separation angle is too close, maybe look for a 110-112 LSA cam. Should also help with your vacuum issue.

What carb, Holley’s can be hard to tune especially double pumpers. Also could be your cam overlap.

What year motor?

Low compression and those gears I would suggest something similar to the smaller summit cam 6400, I also had a comp 270h in a low compression 440 and it ran really nice. There are many options out there.

Call Hughes, they make a cam specifically for low compression 440's to help build more cylinder pressure.
