Anybody's home track going to be running this year?

Got the Plymouth ready to go but found out that the local track most likely won't be opening this year at all now.. What a bummer that is. Anyone going to be racing this year? Possibly?
Sacramento Raceway has a limited schedule. The old fogies on the County Board of Supervisors are more of a problem than Covid.

Our local new motor sports complex is up at arms. Dirt track boys don't want to play friendly with drag racers and vise versa. The asphalt track for the roundy racers was converted to dirt and the drag strip was supposed to be open before fall. So far no dirt has been moved for the drag strip. Not sure why car guys can not get alone but it apparently it is a problem in the area.

I plan being involved at my track Ieven go spectate just to show support &appreciation

The 64 is out of storage and I’m crossing my fingers. My local track is shooting for May 28th for opening day.

Today was the first time for loading / unloading the 64 with the new left side trailer door that I fab’d last fall. Wow, what a difference, piece of cake now. That door pillar was a real squeeze for far too long.

This year the 64 shares the garage with the Dart. Sure hope May 28th is a go!

I don’t have a latch. The flip board is secured well. What is the purpose of the latch?
To keep it from flipping back and forth every time you hit the brakes.. sooner or later they come off and end up on your car, or pound the paint off a wing car.

Makes sense. I’ll be installing a latch. Thanks!

@malex any racing? Been waiting to hear about the 64 and the Dart.

Well as a matter of fact.. July 10/11th will be my first outing this year. Unfortunately I missed the June meet due to a personal commitment. Weather for next weekend is expected to be between 82 to 85F but the Plymouth has all new vital fluids, valves set and a new distributor drive gear, good to go. I never checked my timing all of last year and noticed I had lost 2 degrees. Got checking and there was some wear on the gear and on the bottom side. It’s got about 4 years on it so it was time.
As for the Dart, I’ve been tinkering with it still. Bought a tig welder and built a shroud for it and a couple other things. Brother, to build a shroud takes lots of time.. As usual, some pics.

Plymouth home from storage, ready to go racing.

New bronze gear for the Plymouth. Note some wear on the gear and on the bottom from the block bushing. Guess that’s why they’re known as a sacrificial part. I’ve heard it said as a rule of thumb they make a few years, not sure but it looked time.

My home made shroud. It was some tight too. Had to trim for the alternator pulley, lower crank pulley and needed to switch to a short oil filter.

91 octane does the trick for the Dart. Got a 6000 chip in the Dart right now and quick to be bouncing off of it. 2nd or drive. Poor tires. Lol

3320 lbs with a full 15 gallon fuel cell. I’m good with that.

I checked in with Wookie the other day to see if he would be up to the race track next weekend. Unfortunately he’s not doing so good at the moment. Covid has been taking a round out of him.. Hoping for the best with Wooks, will miss the big fella at the track next weekend but looking forward to catching up with him in August. He’s a good man.

Very nice malex. Both my TNT days got rained out. Been itchen to get to the track to get a time on the new Indy T ram set up. Also malex, I have an all aluminum 572 Hemi in the works. Stage v heads are on their way from Tim at FHO and the block is at Best Machine getting fully machined. Happy 4th.

Other than missing your TNT days it doesn’t get much better than what you got going on. What’s the plan for that big hunk of alloy and end numbers?

Well, the plan is for a street/strip 572 800+hp deal. Haven't decided on compression yet, but i'm thinking 12.5:1 ish. Was gonna use a KB block, but didn't want to wait, so using a Bill Mitchell block instead. Also gonna use the Stage v 2x4 intake on this combo. Maybe you can school me a bit on this build as i'm on a learning curve here with a Hemi.

Street driving with 12.5 to one forget about it unless your willing to buy race gas.

From my seat I’m seeing that you’re already in good hands with the guys already on the job. And Tim gets good good power out of his heads while Best is top notch with the rest.
About the only thing that pops out to me is what your intentions are. Race only or perhaps some street miles too? But based on my experiences with my 572 it sure is easy to pull up to a pump, fill and go. I’m limited to 91 octane and my 11.0-1 combination works fine on it while laying down 873HP / 777 TQ. With 12.5-1 I’d say that you’re shooting low on your estimated HP goals/you will be pleasantly surprized. On the other hand with my 505 with12.8-1 pulling up to the pump doesn’t happen. Would this monster be going into your fish?

From what i see with my 12.5:1 511, it only requires about 100 octane. I run a mix of 113 Dragon and 93 Sunoco. I may decide on 12:1, but i do want some compression in it. Who should i let pick the cam for it? Will be solid roller. Whats the cam look like in your Hemi, if its not top secrete?

Our track opened after being closed for 2 years. The folks running it Southern New Mexico Racing have started Friday Nite Drags for anyone that wants to get off the street. July 2nd was the first one and should be every Friday Nite. There were legit drag cars and every thing you could think of running. I left at 9 pm and cars were still coming in. It will only grow from here. $15 to race, come on down to Arryo Secco.
