This 76 year old engineer that lives in the same town as i do has come up with an electric car with 510 miles range that can be filled/charged up in 3 minutes, runs 0-60 in 2.5 seconds and has a top speed of 186mph!!!

If this or solid state batteries will ever get to mass production than that's probably the end of the gasoline powered cars.

That said as much as i hate what this means for gasoline cars you can't argue that these specs are pretty impressive, though...

It's coming, for sure. That is mighty impressive. I always wonder what these companies are working on that we don't even know about yet.

That is 3 min for methanol to be used when battery is low
I ASSUME battery charge time will be like a Tesla

still when the battery is empty. It is only the buffer between the 15 kW, methanol-driven fuel cell and the motors. The Nathalie is ready to go again after a three-minute retanking of methanol. This opens up new opportunities in areas without a developed charging infrastructure. A concept for independence and real electrical mobility.

It's incredible how fast the technology is changing. There is new battery technologies that will make hydrogen fuel cells obsolete. Lithium a thing of the past. But both technologies were excellent and necessary stepping stones. The simple truth? Internal combustion has really been obsolete for decades.

There is nothing to fear. Classic car and classic motorsports will remain. Just our daily commuters and electricity generation will change. Moving away from fossil. And more towards greener technologies. It's not only environmental. But economical as well.

I keep telling my ol lady by the time i finish all the body work and am able to drive my charger im goin to have to end up putting an electric motor and batterys in it. Or else it will be hard to put fuel in

By chance, is he related to the guy who claims to have invented the 70 MPG carburetor back in the 70's?

But where does the methanol come from?
If it uses methanol to generate electricity its still a hybrid.

Notice the toad lickers immediately start chanting like little monkeys. This is why Germany, Japan, China is eating our lunch on the new technologies front. Because they don't have the percentage of people believing we should go backwards in our technology pursuits. We just lost 4 years to idiocracy. Clean coal? You can't make this stuff up. 200 years ago we used whale oil to light our lamps. Should we go back to that?

I understand that the future is scary. And the new technologies make you feel sad. And nostalgic for the days gone by. But thank God the adults are now in charge. And we can forward to a very bright future. We just have to ignore the monkey boy's chatter.
This isn't the political thread section. Keep your idiotic opinions to yourself please...lol.

I would come with more than that? Mama's grocery getter Tesla just blew your can off the road.
Apples and oranges. There have been numerous smaller faster vehicles mass produced that could blow the doors off the average resto mod. We don't build them for speed as a rule, we just like how they look and sound and feel. It doesn't make us wrong, just different. I could expound on this point but as I said, this isn't the political section...

Turn this gas versus electric deal around.....if we had been using electric for 100 years and suddenly discovered gasoline your tune would be completely different...

Small? Tesla's are over 4000 lbs. Luxury. If they built a pure race? 8s all day long. They have FAR less maintenance requirements. The only problem is charging if running too many laps. But that's today's issue. Tomorrow? With new battery and fuel cell technologies? I saw a garage built electric dragster run a very low 5 sec 1/4. It will soon over take top fuel?

Races like 24 hour of Lemans and Daytona are safe. As of now. But tomorrow?

For racing they will figure out quick change battery packs

Not sure it's legal? You are able to change parts. But not core powerplants? Wouldn't be hard to label as "Core component." Hell, racing has been arguing that rule since its beginnings? Why not just replace the whole car? One thing technology is really not even close? The driver. NASA explained best after a rover failure. When asked. "How did this happen?" The engineer explained. "Its hard. With sometimes too many variables. We can't make a robot that can adequately vacuum your carpet?" Let alone run around on a distant body with some intelligence?"
