Looking to replace my radiator

440 auto 22" stock copper 3 row with clutch, never boil, no pressure needed, use Evans waterless coolant. Works great in traffic. Last forever , no corrosion. Jay Leno puts it in all his cars.

With that 3 core radiator if your running 180 - 190 on the road when its hot out I think a fan swap to a oem style clutch or 7 blade fixed plus adding a shroud should cool it down at slow speed and idle. Make sure your hood to rad support seal is good and back of hood to cowl seal also.
make sure you have a good 180 thermostat.
Also do not waste your $ on one of those chrome universal shrouds use a oem style do some measuring and hit the web sights or swap meets.
This might be a dumb question, but which OEM style fan would fit and be adequate for my car? Ive seen so many different part numbers for mopar fans and I really dont know what the difference is.

I need some help with my cooling system. Im looking for a 22" radiator that will cool the 440 in my 65 coronet. I currently have a 7 blade flex fan and a 3 row summit aluminum rad that just isnt cutting it at idle or slow speeds. Im looking to switch to a stock style clutch fan and shroud and a better radiator. Ive done alot of searching, but most of the radiator suppliers list their products as fitting 66 and up cars. Is there a reason that some of these radiators wont fit a 65? Some of the brands im looking at are OER, Griffin & Wizard.

When I finished my 69 340 dart I had the same problem, and before the rebuild I had no Issues. However I was in a hurry and grabbed a flex fan off the shelf and Installed it.
Out of frustration I walked over to the pile of fans and grabbed a stock 318 mopar fan and put it on,
The overheatring went away, runs correctly to this day. I read where those flex fans are called that because,, they flex. when they do, they are not very efficient.
But another reason I avoid them was at that time in the newspaper there was a story of a guy revving his engine up and messing with the carb on a Camaro, and one blade came off. It struck him in the the throat, and he died shortly thereafter. The family standing around could do nothing for the poor guy.

So No flex fans for me.
I do have a factory 383 original radiator for I believe a 1963 that I am not using, and spare stock steel fans.

2843225 is a fixed seven blade , not sure on the clutch fan part numbers,
There are many used on ebay. Plus we have a parts wanted section on here that may help turn up the parts you need.
I just think a good fan / shroud combo and getting air flow were it should be will help you a bunch.

maybe on the late show here if problem was resolved. but ... is the cooling system all mechanically sound? T-stat and radiator working properly? any cold spots on the radiator? 2 cents.

Problem stil not resolved. Just been busy and havent had time to work on it for awhile. The rest of the cooling system is working fine. It has a new robert shaw t stat and a high flow water pump and housing.

Just got back to working on the car again and need some advice on which radiator to buy. I recently purchased a 216 fan and a low profile hayden clutch, but cant install them because the clutch is touching the aluminum raditor. I temporarily installed my original 2 core factory radiator for the old 318 in the car just to check for clearance, and the clutch and fan fit fine. I can't test it out, because the radiator outlet hose will hit the oil filter. Upon closer inspection, I noticed that the original radiator is angled to match the tilt and offset of the engine whereas the aftermarket Summit radiator is mounted flat. Where can I find an original or a good reproduction big black radiator?

I do have a pusher fan, but I really don't need it, but makes you feel better knowing it's there.
Also, it's a stick, no tranny cooler

Ok what exactly do you have here? Which radiator are you using? I just finished replacing the radiator in my 68 coronet...also using the Hayden 2947 fan clutch, factory 7 blade fan and factory shroud....went from an aluminum ECP radiator to a different 2 row 1.25"tube aluminum radiator from a guy off ebay....fitment in great, decent gap between radiator and face of clutch....lower hose not interfering with oil filter.....
I have this radiator, 26" and black...

Im using a summit brand 3 row aluminum radiator and a flex fan currently. I have a 7 blade 18.5" factory fan and a hayden 2947 clutch that I tried to install, but the summit rad was too wide.

I recommend you sell that 3 row and use a 2 row. You'll get your clearance back and probably cool better... you don't need a $1k+ radiator, unless you have a documented 6 figure car!

Thanks, that info really helps. Im looking into that same radiator. Can you tell me how thick it is at the core? It doesnt show that dimension on their website. Also, what temp does it run in idle?

From flange to flange is 2.75" with the core slightly narrower.
I never really idle very long, but in city traffic it'll stay under 200, the heavy duty clutch is a must!
And to be clear, it does have a tank trans. cooler, I'm just not using it, therefore not putting any extra heat in or in front of the radiator.

Here's my setup...

I have two issues with my 68 Coronet I need to solve this summer. Brakes and Cooling. I’ve pretty much figured out all the parts I need for the front drum to 11.75’ disc conversion.

Now I need to gather info on cooling especially sitting in hot weather traffic that can get into the 100s. I’m not sure what radiator the previous owner put in, the OEM number is wrong but it leaks.

68 Coronet 500/383 4bbl/727/non-AC

There’s no shroud on this 22” radiator which is wrong anyway.

Can you list each part you used with the number?

Are the 22” to 26” radiator conversion brackets a decent product? Do things line up correctly as if the car came that way?

Or should I stick with a 22” radiator for my 383H/auto/non-ac car?

If the brackets are a good choice who got the best ones?

Well I found out what the previous owner put in my car. I hope the holes lined up and he didn’t just drilled some new ones.
