Colors.

I dunno. Not really a red fan but a red, 70 HemiCuda just seems right, possibly because of the original advertising. My 66 looked okay I think. I don't think I would buy anything butterscotch, it's just not for me. Not a fan of Omaha Orange on a 69 either.

I bought my butterscotch car, in spite of the color. I have come to love it, partially because of the colors rarity. I bought the car cause it is a numbers matching A12.
My dad called its color baby-**** brown.

Sorry about pic quality. Poor print photo from the staging lanes at riverside, late eighties.

......I love that color.....A12's are just awesome.

It's obviously a tough subject. Because it's so subjective. As well as a little generational? Ferrari red. That looks right. Is it because many of us have become accustomed to that color associated with Ferrari? Or? Is there actual design characteristics that make the color work better? It does appear that the more exotic and risky the design? The more acceptance of louder colors? In American designs? This is where I believe Mopar pulls ahead of GM. And certainly Ford. Chrysler took bigger design risks. Thus why wilder color combos work better with Mopar.

black is awesome when clean and detailed, red is good yellow not so much for me sorry yellow guys, but silver with the viper at sunset is the ****.

Silver is a earth tone color. Which I believe is safer. Thus why it works with so many platforms? Different browns/tans the same. I picked on red because it's certainly more volatile. Like in the mid/late 60s. Why did red work so well with Impala. But not as much with Chevelle? Red worked decent with 1st gen GTO. But not as well with 2nd?

This is of course just the publics average response. Red lovers will like it on their pancakes. But colors certainly affects sales. Take green. It works far better on GTX/RoadRunner than Chevelle? Is it the shade? Or is it the body design how it displays that shade?

I'm guessing we will not uncover some science that can accurately predict. I just find it curious.

One game to see what is the "Publics perception?" Is. What color first comes to mind when associate to a specific model?

RoadRunner:
Camaro:
Mustang:
Chevelle:
Cuda:
Impala:
Galaxy:

For me? Green, Blue, Red, Black, Purple, Red, White. (From order top to bottom.) (I didn't add Corvette because that car is certainly generational. C1 White. C2 Red. C3 Blue. C4 (who cares. Lol) C5 Yellow.)

Tastes vary over time though. Within 2 to 3 years a lot of these HIP Mopars were painted to more mundane colours back in the day. Lots of FC7,FM3, FJ5 Mopars were painted standard black, red and dark green by 1972 in my area.

Red was not my first choice but I liked the Charger and the price I paid for it. I've kind of grown to like it after awhile.

My problem is I like a certain color because it's one I can see and you see it differently. I lean towards blues and yellows and burnt oranges.
Being red/green color blind i can't see those colors right. I am not allowed to pick any house paint or the like. Once hiking in Hawaii my wife and kids were talking how the tree flowers and colors were so beautiful. I couldn't see it.
So I see a color for a car and say man that would look nice and all I hear is are you crazy

Color is like beauty it is in the eye of the beholder. I don’t mind any of them if it’s not what I like sometimes it takes a little pin stripe, or just some time to get used to it.. My Ram is red, my RT is F4 , my 72 is copper/ brown, my ram charger was yellow and my Dakota is blue so as long as it’s not silver, grey , black or white I’m ok... just kidding I don’t like that new cars come in three colors though it seems like.

I think it's year and model dependent - some colors suit the older years more. I think Citron Gold looks great on my '66 but I couldn't imagine a Superbird or 68-70 Charger in that color.

I have always liked Yellow, but not the retina-burning shades. Daffodil Yellow is what both my Coronet and Imperial are, and I love both. Does that color work on something built in the last 20 years? No way.

I like black on nearly any car. Same with silver. Both are both stately and sporty. Never been a huge fan of Red or Orange. I can live with most darker Green shades and B5 Blue, too. Lilac is an amazing color that works beautifully on B- and C-bodies when that shade was available, but I couldn't imagine that on anything newer.

My '66 Coronet and Imperial.

Black, grey, silver, white and red are way, way overdone on cars built this century. I'd love to see Blue, dark Red, dark Green, even Titty Tan make a reasonable comeback. Anyone seen an interior other than Black or Grey lately?

Of the vehicles my family owns, the color rundown is as such:
Brown/Champagne (3)
Yellow (3)
Black (2)
White (1)

I bought my GTX 3 years ago to replace a similar dark green (F8) GTX 440 4-speed I had so many years ago. (My favorite car) This car though same color and performance package as 1st, has a camel tan interior. (First had the classic black buck seat interior.) I wasn't sure I would like the color combo. Buy have to say it does work. However, saying that? I don't believe it would work at all in reverse? Camel tan exterior with dark green/black interior? So "Colors" is certainly judged with not only context. But contrasts as well.

Below once again is a quick walk around vid of that car. 3 years ago it was a $20k car. (Not even close to numbers matching. But period correct.) Today? Prices have gone a bit bonkers. (But that of course is a different subject matter all together.)
Vid is to show color combo.
