I have a few different size drums for my 8 3/4". It has 11" backing plates. I just took a set of 2 1/2" drums of of it. Can I put a set of 3" drums as long as I install a set of 3" shoes? Just wonder if they are interchangeable. Thanks

I swapped the 2 1/2" drums & shoes for the 3" drums & shoes. Actually back & forth. As long as you have the 11" backing plates.

You need to have the associated size backing plate with it too. They are all a different offset. Wider shoes, will have a backing plate that is deeper offset towards the leaf spring

And the top anchor pin is a different length.

the rear axle is the same width at the drum face so the offset of the backing plate is different for different width shoes.

you cannot swap them.

66, you are correct. My 70 Roadrunner came with the 3" drums in back (disc up front)

Nobody said that 3" rear brakes were not available on some B bodies. The point being made was that 3" and 2 1/2" backing plates are different.

Ok sounds like I have to stick with the 2 1/2". Was hoping to put the 3's on cuz I like the fins. Thanks guys.

There are plenty of 11x2.5” brake drums with fins on them, they started in 1969. Aftermarket drums may or may not have the fins.

Just pointing out that the posted parts list did not show an 11" B body number. I'm sure that the 11" backing plates I had took both the 2 1/2 & 3" shoes with the correct width drums. But I was mixing & matching lots of parts inn those days.
