What’s the largest tire anyone has on the rear of a 64 Belvedere?
My wheel is 15x8 with a 4” offset and I’m thinking a 275 60 R15 might fit but it will be close

I'm gonna assume you meant backspace. 4" offset would make it a toronado/eldorado fwd wheel.
I think 4" backspace isnt enough. Ive got a 62, so not a direct comparison, but my 15x8 with 4"bs (steel ramcharger wheel) was too close to the fender for more than a 255-70x15. Ive got a 4 1/2 bs wheel (roughly) with a 10.5 slick on it, bigger than a 275-60......but its tight!

Thanks your right I meant backspace, I was out there for hours last night taking measurements and agree a 255 is about as large as it can handle.
The 70 gave you a better stance over the 60?

Does this car have the original 64 8 3/4 axle? They are the widest of the 62-65 axles. With an 8”” wheel you will probably need more backspacing. Us old guys remember that Cragar made a special offset rear wheel just for the 64s.

The seventy is narrower and taller than the sixty. I wanted the height for the 3.91 gears. No clearance problems and filled the long wheel opening better. Traction is poor with T/A radials, but slicks solve that problem.

Its a 64 Belvedere Street Wedge car

Depends on backspacing and tire height.

I will tell you that with 3800lb Direct Connection super stock springs and shackles I was able to comfortably fit 15x12s on my '67 charger with 50 series tires.

No narrowing or tubs. Just jacked to the moon :D

:bananadance:

End result, 15" wheel with 4" offset I went with a 255 60 R15 and it just fits. A 275 would have rubbed

I'm running 275/60/15 on 15x7 cop wheels. It's an 8.75 rear out of a '68 GTX, though. As PRND21 said, '64 was the widest tappered rear of th '62-'65 cars. I have no rubbing issues. I have to jack up the body to remove them.

I went with 15x8 sounds like 15x7 would have been a good choice

15 x 8 4 1/2 backspace...64 rear end 275 60 15 ....barely clears. I'm using a 69 charger rear going forward thats 3/4 narrower...I'll be golden then !!!

Nice, like the wheels also

Out of curiosity, what's largest wheel/tire size combo for the front? And what would be the ideal wheel/tire size combo (if different)?

I run 225 60R15 on 15x6 on my Hemi Belvedere. ( no power steering)

Are you talking widest, or tallest? Ive got 235/75x15 on the front of my 62. 29"+ tall, but i have the splash panel and front edge of the fender trimmed. 215/70x15 fit better, about 27 tall. I have manual steering, wide does not appeal, at all. 255/70x15 or 10/28x15 slicks on the rear, both 28"+ tall.

For the wheel, are you using 15x7 in the front and 15x8 in the back?

215 70s are on a factory 15x6 steelie, fit ok, but rub on a header tube in the wheelwell on full lock, on one side only. If you dont have thirty year old hooker adjustables you should be okay, lol.
The 235 75s are on 15x7 tt2s with a little less backspace, (wanna say 4", but whatever stock tt2 is)
Rear slicks are on 16x8 1/2 tt2, with 4 1/2 bs and fit good. 255x70s are on ramcharger 15x8 steelies with not enough backspace, i wanted to run 275s, but they would have rubbed the outer fender.

Sorry about the lousy pic quality. The good pics of both (actually four) wheel and tire combos are in my tablet......and i broke it.

Front a 15x7 4.0 back space . 225-70-15.Front. rear 15x8 4.5 back space on a 295-65-15 new set up. I have 2 sets of rear wheels for this car.
