I recently removed the 727 transmission from my Coronet to clean and redo all seals. If i bring the throttle bracket all the way forward towards the engine. How far back should it travel before I start to feel pressure from it hitting against the rod? Currently mine will travel until its about 90 degrees to the transmission before I start to feel any resistance. Is this within normal or do I need to do any adjustment?

The picture below shows the position of the throttle lever when I begin to feel resistance. I can still full it forward about another 3/4".

Thanks in advance for any feedback.

I believe the correct way to set it is to hold the throttle wide open and at the same time adjust the lever to be fully engaged. I'm not sure if there's a set position before you should feel resistance but i'm sure more knowledgeable members will chime in.

I forgot to mention that this is only in reference to the throttle bracket on the transmission without involving the kickdown/throttle linkage.

That is a Throttle Valve Lever, not a bracket or linkage. There is a measurement and tool in the Service manual that gives specs. They are different on different yrs due to older ones having to be "full" throttle for downshift and newer having partial throttle for downshift. That said, yes, on mine, there is some "freeplay" from full forward until it hits a little resistance going towards rear.

Yes, you are correct, it’s is a lever and not a bracket. Sounds like this may be normal. I ran the car briefly before noticing the transmission leaking fluid which is why I decide it to pull it to replace all seals. Just wanted to make sure this free play in the throttle lever was ok. Thanks again everyone!

I've never heard of that lever going out of adjustment on its own. Usually only after a shift kit or valve body adjustment.
