I had just graduated from high school and saw a buddy's older brother's car, a '69 Roadrunner sitting in the parking lot of the local Burger King. I fell in love with immediately! Much to my surprise and delight, I learned he was planning to sell it. Before summer was over, its title had my name on it and my first car. 383, auto, 3.23, ~24K miles.
Unfortunately, they were easily broken into and stolen. After the second theft in '74, even though it was all bolt on items, there was too much to replace for the insurance company's appetite. So, I had no choice but to take the cash payout. Side note: A month or two later I saw the car being driven! It was unmistakable - White, black vinyl roof, and a split red reflective strip along the side top body line.
Going to school and work, I needed a car. Fortunately, I found a '68 Roadrunner and was able to buy it with the payout! I drove that car across the country in '75 and back in '76 (Cleveland, OH - Garden Grove, CA). Even raced it a number of times at Orange County International Raceway park (OCIR). 383, auto, 3.91, 90K miles (yes, drove cross country when gas was .55/gal)
I kept that car until '79 when I got married and needed money for a down payment on a house. Mileage just over 100K.
Fast forward 40+ years, and I'm looking to buy another '68-'69 Roadrunner. Would love to find either one, but I'm not sure I can dig up enough information on either to locate them.
That's my story and I'm sticking to it.
