My painter who is going to paint my Dash says the two side speakers have been drilled in... I was completely under the assumption they were stuck from factory.
How would I confirm if my car had this original or not? I have the build sheets and fender tag, would they show?
What about position and placement?

And would my VIN plate be black originally?

R22 is the only radio code those speakers come with on a 69 B-body.

The holes are made with a hole saw from the factory they are not punched.

Hmm....
Do R22 code would have had them?
Any idea on positioning or layout?
If they are factory I am going to leave them but if not I will patch them I think....
I was of the complete understanding that they were stock but I also didn't think the dash was ever removed and clearly it was....

Look on the build sheet.

I don’t want to speak out of turn but that grill looks like it’s turned 1/4 turn from where it should be? I don’t have any R22 cars here right now to compare.

I do not know the codes. Dash speakers are for an AM/8-track radio only. A GTX is a high line car and would have likely had an upgrade like this. The holes could not have been put in with the windshield installed nor could the dash be removed with the windshield in. If the windshield that was removed is a date coded correct glass then I would be inclined to say yes for correct. Also the glove box liner should have two screw holes in the top for the stereo splitter. They would have imprints of a captive washer screw in them about 4" apart. Also there would be a "drilled" hole on the bottom of the dash close to where the reverse light was mounted.

Interestingly, I have seen a few different survivor dashes and they had the grills mounted in different "clocks". When you removed them there were marks to validate they were always like that. I suspect that since the holes allow it to be rotated that the factory was non specific during installation. Careless assembly that wasn't an issue.

Ok interesting on the grille placement

There were plenty of high level cars without an 8 track radio, and they were expensive for the times.

R22 is AM 8 track stereo. The rear speaker was not part of that. But it could be added as an option to an R22 radio. That’s just one rear speaker.

I had a 1970 with R22 and R31 rear speaker
Here is a pic of the sheet

Mine has two rear speakers at different angles to each other....
I will post a picture of my build sheet shortly.
I will also look at my glove box but would what you were suggesting signify that it would have these two speakers?
I still have the speakers too maybe I'll post those and look for a date.

More photos...
They don't have the Chrysler symbol like the center speaker had. Does have the code 22 but not sure about the "R".

If you decide to go with the single rear speaker option, I have one that is rebuilt, also front dash speakers and harnesses.

This is the top of my glove box I'm assuming this is the receiver piece you were talking about.
Do they all have this or only if they have the front two speakers?

Only with two front speakers. That is good indication that it came with it. You can't always trust the codes. Plant workers could order a car and then follow it down the line talking to their Union buddies. Hey buddy, help me out and put those wheels on it for me, that radio, steering wheel, etc. The AM/8-Track radio bezel can be hard to find.
