After 100 emails prodding me to join an "advisory group" for businesses, thought I'd ask if anyone has by chance done this. The concept sounds interesting; but have quick doubts - more akin to pie in the sky BS. Appears that it's aimed at people who have run a business and maybe others in managerial capacities. Sounds like you pay a good sum to join this circus and to expect some businesses to pay you for advice like on an extended board of directors.

I have to laugh as being just about retired finally closing up my biz 100% in the next couple weeks, I've had tons of people I worked with for years, building a decent relationship, retire being replaced by millennials and younger. 9 out of 10 (or 20) have zero friggin interest or respect for the 35+ years of experience - it's basically the "I got this old man" ... could give one **** about the acquired experience or knowledge. So aha, join this thing and presto all sorts of businesses are going to want to hear what I have to share?? I have to say WDaF.

Don't rule it out. The depth of your experience may be more valuable than you think. There are those in the younger generations that will not hesitate to ask for help.

You mean there are youngsters today who don't think that they know everything?

I do a fair amount of consulting for a few firms. None require any type of payment.
Depending on what i do i charge 200 to 500 per hour.
The best I think is GLG (Gerson Lehrman Group, Inc.)
If you need a reference etc, just pm me

I was supposed to 'fully' retire last July and did so with the exception of my oldest client. Reason was my contact there is retiring and asked me to stay on until he was done. Lol, he's pushed off retiring three times now, but his replacement is on board so it's getting close. After meeting this new guy, I'm glad I won't be working with him.

They should work as an agent, 10% of what you make.

I found in my life giving advice can come back and haunt you. My advice, be careful how much advice you give. Just my opinion.... and advise. Lol.

Actually yes. I get that many are know it all and are even “entitled”, but I also know many who are eager to learn and appreciative. It is those I try to help and encourage.

Interesting. Got a similar invite myself. Seems scammish on the surface. If it were real why not a phone call?

This deal I think came to me thru linked-in and they must have simply traced to my website I suppose. I decided to reply with my opinions and ask why the fees are not identified and what they have as the ROI. Yeah I think it's a load of crap. I could block this; but being a curious sort thought I'd inquire. Anyway, I spent 40+ years 'working' and crapola was more than the enjoyment with the ever mounting corporate culture BS. More people trying to play a role like an actor than let's just get stuff done.

It was pathetic to watch some people I had to deal with all worried about who's *** they had to keep their lips planted on. I had two bosses in my career at one company I was with, before starting my biz, that relished having meetings. Seemed like anything popped up...lets get the management group or all employees together for a meeting. Yep get a room full of 70 people together, plus calling in the the 17 employees in my dept in the office from the field, to MEET. Some of these people lived 2 hours away. Then our service field time was dwindling and I get asked why. I finally got pissed telling them stop the friggin meetings, role plays, and workshops that are a waste of time. My people belong in the field, with our customers, they come in once a week to do their paperwork and schedule their week. Then out. They're job is in front of the customers; not in the office doing gdamn role plays. Well, I got black listed and a nice severance package to get my *** gone...
