I was having a issue with trans popping out of forth on deceleration...Tired everything and to no avail. Spoke to Dan as I bought the parts to rebuild the trans as well as parts to convert my car to a 4 speed
Dan suggested I take the stops off the shifter and remove the console to make sure nothing was hitting shifter handle
Problem solved
I had installed a rubber boot over the rug into the tunnel hump and than the console and rubber that goes on top
Do I need the rubber boot below the console ????
I didnt see any interference with shifter handle hitting anything
I really gave the car a good run, took it out on the highway up to 70 and kept backing off gas and goosing it. Never popped out of gear, shifted good
Im happy to not have to remove that trans as removal was next.
Dan is a good guy, spoke to me at length
My rebuilder of trans is also a good mechanic, used all the right stuff according to Dan
Thanks to both these guys

Awesome news, and of course a great shout out to a couple of upstanding men in the transmission field. Shift away brother, shift away!

Sounds good. I removed the second boot from mine many years ago (no big issues). I have another transmission in mine now with no lower boot. I suspect it keeps things cleaner, but I haven't had issues.

When you say "stops", are you referring to the 2 external bolts on a Competition Plus shifter?

So my next question is this
I have 3:55 gears
Trans is a 68 or 69 23 spline
I have 15 inch tires on car
How does that size tires affect gear ratio
Car sounds like it needs to be shifted agin in forth gear

Yes
I’m sorry I wasn’t clear on that
I removed them as Dan’s instructions
If that was indeed the issue, it just wasn't adjusted properly. I back out the bolts, push the shifter as far as it will go into 3rd. While holding it there, snug up the rear bolt. Let the pressure off the stick and tighten the locknut. Do the same in 4th with the front bolt. I really like the positive stops that the Comp + allows compared to an original unit, and have never have a problem not going into gear or popping out.

3.55 gear with a 26.5" tire at 60mph 2800 to 3000rpm.

What size 15" tires? I run 275/60/15's on both my B-bodies. One has a 3.23 reared and the other 3.55's. Noticable rpm difference when cruising at 70. In fact, I try to limit the 3.55 car to 65 mph on extended trips.

You must be used to new cars that shift into OD! I notice that effect in my 65 Coronet.

My Tremec has popped out of third a couple of times on deceleration, pretty sure the boot puts some pressure on the shifter. Check the lower boot for stiffness.

Brewers awesome people .....never been disappointed:thumbsup:
