Just depends on what group you hung out with in school... I was hanging with the car guys... So I'd be drooling over that Daytona... But I clearly remember the old VW bus cruising through the parking lot with smoke pouring out the sunroof & windows.... Stoner crowd loved the buses....

Yeah the auction settings prices
for them VW Buses or camper conversions
is nucken' futs of late
the past 7-10 years, it started to fall off some
but $200,000 that was nuts + all the fees & reg ontop

I'm more of the Daytona crowd
then the VW Bus crowd

I never liked those busses. If you told me in 1990 that they would be $200K collectors items I would have never believed it.

did you see the pickers show where they found a complete 6BBl Superbird and offered like 30K for it and owner declined. Then he told them about a “Barn door” VW bus and they hauled *** outta there to go see it, and offer 50K for a bare shell with no floors or glass, and didn’t get that either.

I don’t actually like either one, the wing cars look goofy to me unless it’s one of the real cup cars and the buses with all the windows don’t do if for me either. Now a Dodge van and a road runner gets me interested.

If you've ever driven one of those really old VW vans, you know how miserable they are to drive....
just sayin'.

I never saw that episode but that's ridiculous, oh yeah $30k for a Superbird but 20k more for a pos thats worth less than the bird. REALLY, why not just give him 50K for the bird then stupid? I'm glad the owner declined. You know Mike with his VW's though, he loves them things

Does it have a hemi? Probably not huh...

When we look back from The End it will be clear. It all started when Crazy Train was used for a Honda Pilot commercial in 2011.

Yep.

And going up any kind of grade...not fun.
You probably get the same thing done there.....but over here slipping an early air cooled Porsche 911 engine into those VW buses is often done....does not take much work either. One on my customers has flat four Suburu Impreza WRX engine in his....300 horses will certainly be more fun than the 40 or 50 they came with!!

I don’t get it but hey they were smoking something rich in that auction to buy a VW bus for that .. It’s a van thats air cooled, exhaust manifold heated death trap... Nader should have put some focus on these things lol! The wing car at least has some real history behind it....

I know what you mean....but the first Type 2 (proper name!) rolled off the VW production line 12 November. 1949.....so they have a fair bit of history too!

It's a 21 window, it's the 427 Cobra, Hemi Cuda vert...
Personally I think $100k for any car is crazy... but the rich drive the market. No different from fine art...who in the hell would pay $75-100k for a print of a Campbells soup can???? Is that art? Is that gullible people being con'ed?
But again they set the value.

I had a 73 bug in highschool paid $350 for it rebuilt the engine for $85 four jugs with piston and ringsinstalled in jugs required a base gasket, with no head gaskets (machined to seal fit) replaced the solex carb with a webber 2 barrel thing ran pretty good, made a baja out of it put wheel adapters and some 15" chevy rims, would spin one tire about 12 ft. floor boards were rusted so I brazed a hood off an old pontiac catalina right over everything. Lived in the sticks back then four wheel drive trails etc. that thing would slide over the top of the snow and go thru about anything 2nd gear with a little throttle feathering, my first snowmobile too. put an electric rear defroster into the heating system under the hood defrosted the windows perfectly, car was a blast couldn't hurt it parts were cheap. rode like **** and was ugly as hell but when your 16 and poor it doesn't matter as long as you got wheels.
